Great to hear DC say that he's ready to build a squad that is good enough to get out of League Two. He said he will not be happy to consolidate next year. Happy days...
I have said all along that DC is the manager to take us upwards and onwards. Being Gasheads we knew that it would not be easy yesterday and it wasn't, but to hear DC say that he is looking to take us to the next level next season is what this club needs
I reckon he'll stick with most of the current squad and make three or four additions to give us a bit more strength in depth. Who do you think he's got his eye on?
He believes in this squad. He believes we can challenge in league 2 next season at the top end. Keepers are good enough - kicking practise is needed though! Defenders are good enough. Remember we have Trotman too to come back. Midfielders have experience especially if we keep Lines. We need pace out on the wings though as I dont know if Gosling and Monkhouse will be enough. Forwards I can see Harrison improving all the time and we have Easter too. Not sure how Taylor and Blissett will do though. Wingers needed along with Lines and maybe another forward??
Gastro do you think Leicester would accept a reasonable bid for him, I think he would come reckons its the changing room he's been in
Would be good if we could sign the lad if he's a serious contender. It would probably b good for him too. But there must be few wingers out there who could do a job.
Well he knows the players, the staff, the fans and makes him easier to fit in as a new player than someone else. But look what happened when we signed O'Toole after his loan? Run the risk with every loan but the way DC works, I doubt he would have signed O'Toole in the 1st place! DC signed Dawson on loan as he liked the look of him. Dawson went to Wembley yesterday as a fan of Rovers and was in the crowd with his lovely missus. been tweeting about us a lot and I will be surprised if he didnt re-join us. Down to his parent club Leicester though.
I don't thing Puddy is good enough for League 2 and Mildy is almost over the hill. I've heard that Ryan Clarke is coming back to the Gas. Also, we need competition down the wings - Balanta ain't it, and replacements for Monkhouse and Mansell as they're not getting any younger. Plus another striker 'cos I do not rate Blissett as a League 2 promotion prospect. Apart from that we're fine
But we must, must, must keep Linesy - best player on the pitch yesterday and the best player in our squad. Port Vale must be mental.
They think they can get someone younger and cheaper who is as good as him. We'll take him no probs. Like you, I thought he was our man of the match yesterday! He has grew a lot away from Rovers and has come back a better player for it.
I thought Puddy was OK except for his kicking which is disastrous. When he started to roll the ball out, the whole team formation changed and for the final ten or fifteen minutes before extra time the Gas worked the ball into the final third really well. I reckon if Harrison had still been up front we could well have won the game before extra time with the potential opportunities we created. Sorry Bliss, but you were not good enough.
Blissetts offside at the end was clearly onside and would have been through on goal. You are right though about Puddy when he started passing it out. We kept possession and looked strong. Kicking it out for a throw to them just gifted them possession and created pressure on ourselves. DC didnt look happy on the touchline each time the ball went out.
I thought Blissett did well after coming on - he clearly looked a threat to the Grimsby defence. I agree with CJS he was definitely onside as I was pretty much in line with that incident. For me Puddy isn't the best and probably should go, and we may need another new keeper as Mildenhall isn't getting any younger. Defence fine, we need a winger or two, and some competition for Brown at LB.
Blissett's a bit leggy, but his touch is improving, so I would give him a season to improve. If we have two keepers, I would keep Puddy is and when Clark comes on board. Mildenhall's been great, but he's also been injury prone. To be honest, I think the side only needs a few tweaks and the squad needs a bit more strength in depth. We've hardly lost any games, kept lots of clean sheets, can score a few goals and our away record is pretty good.
I agree, I think we will be quite strong anyway, so with one or two good additions, I can't see why we won't challenge again next season
