    Grief-stricken QPR defender speaks out
By Jacob MurtaghJan 14 2013 Add a commentinShare.0 1Share on emailShare on print
Nedum OnuohaQPR's Nedum Onuoha has revealed the personal turmoil he's faced following the death of his mother.

Anthonia Onuoha lost her long fight with cancer in November, with the devastated defender granted compassionate leave from Rangers' relegation battle to spend time with his family.

Grief-stricken Onuoha returned to the fold for the west London derby win against Fulham in the middle of December – QPR's first victory of the campaign.

And although Rangers might be in dire straits - their struggle is put in perspective compared to the 26-year-old's loss.

The former Manchester City man has revealed for the first time the daunting task of dealing with his mum's death while trying to help the R's to safety in tribute to her memory.

“It has been really difficult,” Onuoha told the Chronicle.

“Over the past few months I've never experienced anything like it.

“It puts things into perspective when you go through bad times like I have, but it's your job and you have to get on with it.

“My mum always wanted me to do the best I can and out of respect for her I will carry on trying to do that.

“I want to carry on making her proud. She was a very special woman, and even when she was ill she never wanted me to stop playing.

"The rest of my career is dedicated to her memory

As the article says, it puts it all into perspective. I guess when we get onto the players' backs we should consider whether there is 'stuff' going on that we don't know about before drawing unfair conclusions.

Ned's mum, Anthonia Onuoha, was obviously quite a woman and quite a mother to him and his sister. Huge loss for them.

    You are so right Beth.

Most of the football fans in my village support Betis even though we are a resonable distance from Sevilla. there is a Pena Betista (supporters bar) here obviously run by a fan. He organised coach trips to matches and this weekend they all set off full of the usual high spirits. he was sitting next to his 7 year old and suddenly died of a heart attack in front of the lad. he was mid 30's with two young children.

What idiot said 'Some people think that football is life and death but it is more important than that'. Tell that to that young lad and his family.

Onuoha has been a revelation since coming back from this personal tragedy. His mother would certainly be proud.

    Take note Bosingwa!

Nonsense. Its unfortunate what happened this boys mum but there's no room for sentiment in this game.

If a players not performing he should be dropped or sold regardless of his personal circumstances.

He's a very talented defender. We need to give him a little time, I've always rated him however. Been fantastic the past 3 games.
