The guy has not exactly become a favourite amongst R's fans yet. He came in to a bit of criticism on MOTD too. Would any of you consider bringing Young back in and put Nedum on the bench instead of Gabiddon as CB cover? Our defense at home has been pretty solid for awhile now, but is he the weak link? On another full-back note, I thought Traore looked pretty decent when he came on yesterday. Definitely seems more natural at left-wing than left-back.
Agreed Young is the best right back at the club, and would expect Onouha to be playing centre half, but because Hill is playing out of his skin,Onouha is stuck out wide, Traore is possibly the best left sided player we have at the cclub, but the defensive side of his game is not as good as the offensive side,
He did a couple of good things yesterday, 1) the assist for the goal, 2) a great block on Torres at the death. This alone could possibly elevate him to 'out best player yesterday', such were the performances of the rest of the team. However the mix up with Kenny for Torres' second was poor, I think Young would have put it out for a corner. Similarly, as highlighted on MOTD, I think the older, slower Young would have 'bust a gut' to get back to clear Torres' first off the line.
We had a whole crate load of problems to resolve in January but the irony is that the full back positions were the least of these. While Taiwo has probably done enough to merit his place in front of Traore, Young in particular must be wondering why Onouha is ahead of him in the pecking order given that the latter is clearly not a natural full back. Another example of a manager needing to field his big money aquisitions at all costs?
I too have been mystified why Young hasn't been playing Onouha isn't a RB, and his distribution has been shocking in quite a few games. He also seems to have the turning circle of a supertanker and all too frequently is left trailing by pacy opponents However, he has looked good when venturing further up the field, and I've also felt that his performances have been generally pretty committed On balance though I'd like to see Young back for the last couple of games, just feel that overall he's stronger all round at RB
Would have liked to see Onouha playing CB. Really don't see him as a modern day FB. He is not mobile or pacey enough. Can't see him overlapping like young does. Can be a very good player for us, but not at FB
Onuoha is one of the quickest players in our team surely? Where's all this ''he has no pace'' come from?!?!
I think he is naturally a CB, but hasnt shone there when playing alongside Ferdinand. Hopefully that will change next season with a solid keeper behind them. (Bye Bye Kenny)
Again I don't really agree, yea everyone was bad yesterday, but he put in some good performances against pacy wingers vs Swansea, Arsenal, Spurs etc. Just a bad day at the office imo, still think he's better than Young at right back. I remember Young getting skinned alot when he played and lots of opposition goals tended to come from his side.
Agree. Young started off well, but was showing his age before his injury. Either better than Bradley though.
Fair enough Col, you have seen him in the flesh while i have not got to HQ this year for obvious reasons. I posted a while back that i felt out FBs must have been under orders to stay back. Just have not seen him over lapping as much as i would like. I will obviously take your word for it.
In recent home games, I thought our defence was starting to get it together and Nedum was part of that. Personally, I wouldn't jump to too many conclusions after one bad day - one very bad day - at the office, for the whole team.
