Onuoha has no regrets about move from life in top four to survival battleBy Sam Cunningham

Football fans long to see their clubs lift the Premier League trophy.

But as Manchester City sit poised to win the title for the first time in their history, life-long fan Nedum Onuoha suddenly has new allegiances.

Onuoha joined City in 1996 aged 10 and was their longest-serving graduate at the club until Mark Hughes signed him for QPR in January.

No regrets: Nedum Onuoha (right) believes he made the right move
He swapped title-chasing City for a relegation scrap with QPR and now he would sacrifice watching City lift the trophy after the game when they face them on the last day of the season if QPR stay up.

The 25-year-old said: ‘I would get much more satisfaction from helping to keep QPR up.

‘I would be really happy if QPR were safe before the final game of the season because that’s away at City.

‘It would great for me if we were safe and they were being presented with the title but obviously it could go the other way as well.’

The defender never thought he would make the move down south after spending most of his life in Manchester but he is embracing the challenge and enjoying playing first-team football.

Leveller: Bobby Zamora equalised for QPR against Everton at Loftus Road
He added: ‘It was the north-south divide thing. People from the north don’t want to come down and people from the south don’t want to move up.

‘But now that I’ve come down here, it’s actually all right.

‘The club has got under my skin already. I’m enjoying it, it’s a challenge and it’s different.

‘I never thought I would ever move to London but I have and I think I’ve come to a good side - I’m really enjoying it.’

QPR have just 11 games to save their season and that includes fixtures against Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Stunner: Royston Drenthe (right) had opened the scoring for visiting Everton
But Onuoha featured in only one Premiership game for City this season and two Carling Cup ties and he has no regrets about swapping the top end of the table for the bottom.

He said: ‘I don’t regret coming here at all. I was at City when they were top of the League, but I wasn’t really a part of it.

‘I was only training with the side every so often and I was pleased to see them doing well, but I didn’t really feel like it was my team anyway.

‘So I knew I had to get away and start my season as soon as I could.

‘It wasn’t that difficult a decision to leave.’
