What Kenny has claimed for the upcoming summer. I hope so, this would mean that we won't be going after the Carlton Cole's of the world but bigger and better. I also hope this means the marveaux bosman fell through as he would not be the best in that type of position we need. Sounds promising and again Kenny works the media over well with how our squad is not in need of a complete overhaul.
Thank god we aren't going for Carlton Cole! Possibly one of the most overated footballers i've ever seen. Back to the subject, this is good news. It shows the owners are serious and are prepared to back Kenny for the players he asks for. The ambition of the club is very good indeed. The summer is going to be very exciting!
Really quiet here today! Ya, I believe we will get the ones we want. two names that seem to be gaining momentum as far as trying to put together an actual package to buy are vargas and hazard. I will take both right now thank you!
Bloody Carlton Cole! As useful as a dog with no legs. I bet that was one of the reasons Roy was chucked, he had his aim on him. In relation to the article I think we will get the best. You've got to look at it from the owners point of view. They want money though a global brand. You don't get that without a team winning something/or at least close. Not investing would mean they can't achieve those goals. They will invest- lets just hope people will accept our offers.
Things have changed,we are no longer managed by Roy Hodgson nor are we owned by ''Dumb and Dumber'' aka Hicks and Gillett. So forget about Liverpool signing Carlton Cole(A Chelsea reject) or Bobby Zamora(who Hodgson would have probably paid ã15 million for out of the ã30 million he would have sold Torres to Chelsea for). The reality...its different. Kenny will make signings that fit into his ideas. He has always signed for positions. He's not perfect by any stretch, however his list of dud signings can be counted one hand. The ones I can think of are Glenn Hysen,Jimmy Carter and David Speedie. I made a comment before that I felt that his most influential signing when he was Blackburn boss(Now this is in the Premiership era) was the ã700k he paid Man City for Colin Hendry.Others will claim that it was the ã3.3 million in 1992 that he paid Southampton for a then non prolific but unplayable Geordie called Alan Shearer. I can see Kenny signing for positions of weakness and complimenting his other signings.Expect him to thats if he does sign two widemen for the two widemen to be complete opposites similar to when he signed John Barnes and Ray Houghton in the summer of 1987 or when he signed Jason Wilcox and Stuart Ripley for Blackburn in the early 90s.One was full of running, and the other was a hard-working grafter that put in a shift and was up and down the line more often than Jordans knickers on a saturday night. The reason being is to compliment the forwards. In 1987,He had to compliment John Aldridge because ''Aldo'' liked early balls played into the box.Same applied in the 90s when he had Alan Shearer. He'll sign a player that will compliment Andy Carroll.I'm 100%.He'll also sign a natural left sided left back. There could be also a commanding centre back on the cards too,and if needed a 4th choice striker. If he feels the need for a mobile central midfielder then that may happen too.
I think the difference now is, like people are saying, we have at least 3 targets per position. And I think most of us would have any one out of the 3. Whereas we used to target a decent player and have one or two mediocre players as options to fall back on. So we'd end up with Pennant instead of Simao. Now we'd end up with A. Young instead of Mata if a deal fell through. I don't think too many would complain.
The reports suggest that there is 3 targets for each position that Kenny and Damien Comolli want to strengthen in.However,I believe and I made this point already that its more than 3.Supposing we fail in our bid to sign say as you said Juan Mata, there are others such as Andre Ayew.Damien Comolli and Kenny will cover their bases.
Yeah. The bases are covered with excellent alternatives. Like I say, we used to have a first choice target and then some relatively rubbish options further down the line that we'd end up getting. Now we can come in a the top end of the market and stay there even if a couple of deals don't happen. That's what I hope anyway. No more selling to buy.
I do believe that the days of ''selling to buy'' are over. However,I also believe that the days of ''buying just for the sake of buying'' are also over. There is a list 10 miles long that were signed just for the sake of signing someone ie Pennant,Bellamy,Crouch and these are just examples. The new signings will be well thought signings, and I reckon the targets have been carefully looked at for the last 3 months and a lot of research and detail has gone into those targets. There is things to consider and from what I read, that Damien Comolli even goes into minutes players spend on the pitch ie how many games they play and two of the targets that have been mentioned were Gary Cahill and Blaise Matuidi or if not players of a similar ilk.
I think what we're looking for as much as that 'big name' signing is someone who might not be well known, but will fit into our team. Comolli's stats research will hopefully reveal a few surprises of that kind. A good example is Antonio Valencia for Utd. Nothing particularly flashy about him, but he does all that can be asked of him, even filling in at RB if they're short.
