Four men will appear in court after being arrested during Saturday’s derby day policing operation. This followed angry scenes outside St James’ Park at full-time as a small minority of Newcastle United followers squared up to officers trying to clear them from the area before Sunderland fans were allowed out of the stadium. Some fans threw flares at the police line. However, officers got the pockets of disorder under control quickly and there was no repeat of the frightening city center riots which followed last April’s clash. There were just 10 arrests before, during and after the match on Saturday. A further person was brought in for questioning yesterday morning. Those held on Saturday were eight Newcastle United fans and two Sunderland supporters. Four men have since been charged. Stephen Taylor of Newcastle has been charged with being drunk in or while entering a sports ground and trying to impersonate a Defender. Cheik Tiote, and Shola Ameobe, also of Newcastle, are both accused of going into a playing area designated for football matches and running round like headless chickens doing absolutely nothing. And Manager Alan Pardew, also of Newcastle, has been charged with disorderly conduct, by inciting the crowd to throw away their season tickets. All will appear before Newcastle magistrates in the coming months. Of the other arrests, two men have been released on bail, one man received a caution for a public order offence, one was given a cannabis warning and released without any further action, and two men received penalty notices. Police praised the majority of fans for their behaviour after the Black Cats ran out as 3-0 winners against the Magpies. Chief Supt Steve Neill of Northumbria Police, said: “The vast majority of fans were well-behaved and the Tyne-Wear derby was celebrated for the fantastic sporting event that it is.” Police kept the two groups on opposite sides of the road with police horses in between. Within moments of seeing one another, several flares were thrown, but the incident was quickly over. After the match, tensions flared between police and a small number of Newcastle United fans as officers tried to clear them away from the ground while holding Black Cats supporters inside. There were loud bangs as flares were thrown. The fans were forced back by police before Sunderland fans were escorted out of the ground. Then at around 3.45pm, after all Sunderland fans had left the city and travelled back to Sunderland for a right good piss up, there was a brief disturbance on Pudding Chare, just off the Bigg Market, when a group took bottles from a skip and hurled them at police officers. Police say no one was injured in any of the disorder.

Saw him in the pictures once shortly after the 3-0 drubbing last season, we'd just took our seats in the posh bit at the back where they give you free nachos and all that **** and he was sat in the opposite row to us. He gave me the 'do you know who I am'? stare, the wife commented 'who's he'? I said that prick that plays for Newcastle, cool as a cucumber she said in her not so quiet voice 'I'm surprised he dares show his face in public' I missed the first hour of the movie pissing myself honestly. Typical woman, never realised the irony of it like but it ****ing creased me. Nacho's were all over the floor.
On a more serious note..all that ****e going on and it seems by the number of arrests that the police have just turned a blind eye..
