Just reading on the BBC site about the demise of Wolves, and this was the opening sentence of the article, and got me thinking who are they? Without using Google and the like, the following spring to my mind Bristol City Plymouth Argyle Swansea Leeds Utd Man City Wimbeldon Charlton Bristol Rovers Hereford Utd Wolves Bradford Swindon Sheff Wed As I say just a guess, what are everyone else's guesses. I will check up tomorrow and post the results.
ROD They could be, and if I'm honest I had them in my list, then I actually read the above article and noticed that Wolves themselves had done it before, so quickly changed it, and took Pompey out...DOH
City were the first team ever to go from First to Fourth in successive seasons and Wolves did it a couple or three years later. Bristol also is the only Provincial City to have two teams relegated from the same league in the same season - 1982 from 2nd to 3rd - and promoted from the same league in the same season - 1990 3rd to 2nd.
1939 North Hartlepools..................................FL.....38..re-elected to Division Three (North) Accrington Stanley........................FL.....29..re-elected to Division Three (North) South Bristol Rovers...............................FL.....45..re-elected to Division Three (South) Walsall.........................................FL....36..re-elected to Division Three (South) Just worth a mention, just look who fell out of the football league in 1939 and had to be re-elected in 1945 after the war, an embarrassment Bristol City have never suffered...
Arent pompey getting a 10 point deduction. Poor buggers. Be a good away game for rovers next season though
along with 3 other clubs as you provided. no embarrassment wiz. rather be re-elected and play within our means than fall 3 divisions and have to be reformed into a new club because poor financial management. now thats embarrassing
Who still reformed and proved to be the dominant force in Bristol, look where you are ripped of the local rugby club to take their home bad management by them but still scrupulous by your so called family club and now fall on their feet with the UWE
Isn't being stuck in the fourth division and playing teams like Burton albion after having got through about 12 managers in ten minutes and calling yourselves the Barca of League 2, now thats embarrassing.
it is indeed, cant deny that (but the barca bit was piss taking ) if it was the other way around they would have done it and anyone in our position would have done it. without doing it bristol rugby would have done what you guys done, bust and reformed anyway, i 1st posted on this thread as it was said by someone that they think rovers have had successive relegations and i just said i dont think that is correct. not really sure how this has turned into banter with rovers/city though so i will refrain anymore comments as i have no intention to ruin a thread
Stop being so insensitive you know your welcome on this board when ever you want it's good to banter its what separates us from our normal home lives
Interesting view point Captain Cack, as many times you and other desperate Sagheads have stated how under today's rules we would have gone bankrupt, and you probably believe that should applied to us retrospectively, yet if you apply the same logic to your re-election to the football league (4 times was it?) you would have be playing non league football for the last few decades. How do you like those apples......
just once had to be re-elected. Dont know why we werent relegated then. Was there a non league to drop to back then? Point is if we were relegated or re-elected we are still us. We didnt have to reform into another club after 3 straight relegation. Apples taste great thanks
