eng v aus 3-game warm up.
good win by england against aus earlier today. england good score and aus chased it well but lost wickets late on to go into the final over needing 16 with 3 wickets left. 4 off the first ball looked ominous but 2 wickets and only a bye in the next 4 sorted it out. 2 off the last ball - 9 less than needed(!) - reduced the margin to 8.

2nd and 3rd games 12th and 14th, game against pakistan on the 17th.

finals begin october 16th.england start 22nd, scotland 17th, ireland 21st.

Yes, good win today. That 6 by Woakes, if the stand hadn't been in the way the ball'd be halfway to Sydney by now!

Yep. Aussies gonna Aussie. Liked Buttler's response. Cheat if you like, we'll still beat you in this warm up game, but do it in the world cup and it will be different

Good confidence-boosting result, even though the Aussies were up to their using tricks.

I understand Buttlers response but I disagree with it. I think it lets his bowler down.

I am a big believer in test cricket being the optimum test of cricketing skills and for me the best form to watch. But the shorter form of the game has increased the interest in Cricket generally, and there is room for both, but I feel they are overdoing the shorter form a bit too much at present There needs to be a balance.

I'm not keen on T20 personally & prefer Test cricket but Tests, One day Internationals, T20 and the hundred is too many types of cricket. Trouble is, the only one you could get rid of is the hundred, as it's not played Internationally but that's the form of cricket the ECB is backing. As usual, the ECB is a waste of time.

I refuse to watch the hundred. It’s a **** idea and one form too many.

    Get rid.

I agree a step too far. 20/20 was enough.

Test cricket is my favourite. I can watch 50 overs one dayers but T20 is a step to far. The 100 is pointless.
I did use to enjoy the 40 overs county sunday league when it was live on BBC in the 70s.

the 3rd game was cut short by rain. england's innings had reached 112 for 2 and aus were set 130 from 12 overs. they lost two wickets in the first two deliveries to woakes, who picked up his 3rd in his next offer. the game was ended with aus 30 for 3 off 3.5.

totally agree about the 100 and test cricket. anything other than first class i tend to label mickey mouse cricket. to be fair, as mentioned above, the shorter versions have helped sharpen fielders and i suspect have been pivotal in raising the run rates in first class games. the shorter versions seem to pull in the adhd punters and money more readily.

for me, the pen-pushers running the ecb are disastrous. that there are virtually no county championship games for weeks on end is sheer stupidity, and no wonder england struggles for test batsmen. the game needs some sort of regularity of fixtures like it had in the 1970s. playing county games from monday to thursday and having mickey mouse games on one or more of the other three days so the weekend adhd people can turn up with their money would be a better way of going about things.

the fact joe root was playing golf while yorkshire were losing their final county match and relegation is ridiculous.

I'd prefer proper cricket over the weekend, every weekend, so Thursday, Friday or Saturday starts, and the one day stuff during the week, otherwise I agree. Although financially the white ball stuff probably makes more sense on a weekend. No good for us working fans of proper cricket though.

big upset to kick things off. namibia v sri lanka. all going to script until namibia lost their 6th wicket on 14.2 overs to make 93 for 6.
just two more runs off that over, but then another 68 off the last five to end on 163/7 (wicket off the final delivery for a 70-run stand).

namibia had belief, sri lanka didn't, and were all out for 108.

in the other game, netherlands beat the uae by 3 wkts with one ball remaining. uea 111/8, netherlands 112/7 off 19.5.
