for me its because hes simply a lot better........he missed some chances granted, i thought he looked sharp in the 10 minutes he came on, looking to prove a point, and next time he starts id put a lot of money on him scoring, im not a fan of the mclean type striker personally, i prefer lazy strikers who know where the onion bag is, just a personal preference, other people will see it differently of course, we will never all agree..

McLean has shown he knows where the goal is (granted not at this level often enough yet) but he's the type of player who gets others involved with the play and creates room for other players. Fryatt doesn't. I'm not saying McLeans better, just saying that whilst he's in better form, why change anything?
 
3 in a row is great, but where not exactly drowning in goals still, so dont see any harm in looking to imrpove it...i personally think half of fryatts problem is far too often he gets dragged out wide etc, and has to do too much for others, instead of being left in the box where he can do his job...i understand why people would persist with mclean, i just personally would rather have fryatt on the pitch.
 
Koren motm for me. I would pick one of our defenders, but they are so good they go without saying. But Koren has the quality we will need when hard graft isn't enough.Hard work from the likes of Mclean is vital,but as we have seen today,it was Korens pearler that won us the game.

Waghorn ? Undecided really. I doubt that the lad is match fit yet,as others have said,he does get himself in the right places. I thought Matty Fryatt looked far more up for it when he came on,than he has done so far this season.And that is a great sign for us,as i believe he and Waggy will be our main source of goals this season.

I wouldn't say that promotion is a song we should be singing just yet,as i did think that over all,we seemed to lack the will to really boss them.We looked like we could have murdered them. Maybe a bit too cautious.But hey,three points.

Waghorn looks slightly rusty to me, but he's now played two games for us and I think he's done well in both games.

I've no issue with Mclean playing, I thought he did a great job today, I just think he lacks that bit of quality.

I think it would be a mistake to leave Matty on the bench for much longer, I think he's by far our best natural goal scorer and he should be on the pitch from the start.

I think that's testament to how far we've come. Fryatt would walk in to probably at least half the sides in this league yet a few average performances and he's replaced by an England under 21 and someone who has very good pedigree in the football league.

There is no doubt our options now are as good as they have been for a long while. You almost wonder what would happen with a more attacking philosophy.
 
I think the dropping of Fryatt may have given him the kick up the back side he needs. Yes Mclean is in form but i would bet 9/10 that an in form Mclean would still not score as many as an in form Fryatt. However Fryatt has being so frustrated and isolated that times he does run the channels but he can leave that to Waghorn.

Even when we win and play well you still appear negative. Today was the best performance we've seen at home for a while and was a step forward from the home win against Reading, i.e progress. Ok, we didn't get the goals to complement the performance but i don't think there's a city player out there today who can say they didn't play well. Aside from a 10 minute spell at the start of the 2nd half we kept a decent Pompey side quiet, You can only be as good as your opposition lets you as they say. We may not be banging in the goals, but we're a work in progress and improving from the first few games of the season. We'd all love to see us win like Man United/Man City but we're putting 3 points on the board and 8th in the league, for me that is the main thing. I don't get this vendetta you have against Barmby, he's a Hull lad and puts the effort in everytime he plays. It's a strange attitude to say the least.

I think Fryatt may regain his place at Brizzle next weekend, I think i heard NP say Mclean had a hamstring strain or something so would expect Matty back in with Waggy.

Im not commenting specifically on this incident here, but I am stunned that anyone thinks a last minute substitution in ANY game is not appearance fee related. Have you never asked yourself before why so many subs come on in the last minute when games are already all but finished?

I remember a documentary follwing Rangers a good few years back in Europe and they had basically already won a game on aggregate to qualify for the Champions League group stages. Ally McCoist then spent a whole 10 minutes just badgering Walter Smith to put him on. He literally didnt stop and with seconds left he got on the pitch when the whistle was blown before he had chance to get a touch. The reason behind all this? Every player who set foot on the pitch got a 10k bonus for qualifying.

You're kidding yourself if you think this doesnt happen all the time.

This board appears to more important to Mfe than a Tigers win. If Nick scored a hat trick on the last game of the season,and it took us up,i don't think we'd ever hear of him again !

I've seen the same documentary .
This is Hull City under Nigel Pearson and the player involved is Nick Barmby not Rangers under Walter Smith with Ally ' sign the register 'McCoist.

If you honestly think NP would jeopardise a result just so Barmby can get his appearance fee you're not so much kidding yourself as mental .

NP will make mistakes but to say he would do such a thing for financial gain for one of his players just does't wash .
 
I clearly said I wasnt commenting on today's incident. I dont see how I could have been any clearer.

However I maintain that every single manager in football does this. Maybe not when the score is in the balance or a lead as slender as 1 goal, but they ALL do it.

And we're hardly talking about him putting someone on who may 'jeopardise a result'. This, as you said, is Nicky Barmby.

That 's your opinion and you're welcome to it.

Managers make late substitutions for a variety of reasons but to say one would be made to get a player an appearance fee , sorry mate but no .

A small percentage may pull this stunt but how can you say they ALL do it ?

The simple answer is you can't .

Waggy put a lot into his u21 appearances, even though he was only sub in the first match he busted a gut when he was on the pitch. The lad is technically excellent, great loanee for us. The rustiness is probably a little bit of fatigue creeping in, maybe not properly match fit yet.
