One more defeat and the worst run in the clubs history will be under McInnes. This is significant, and although I initially thought that McInnes would have a few games to sort it out I truly think that he'll walk if the club lose another game. We are bleeding managers lately and after a while our players seem to just give up trying. This isn't McInnes' fault as much as it is the players, but a fine young manager will pay the ultimate price because of it. Sadly, there is no money to overhaul the side, so relegation looms for us I'm afraid unless McInnes can do everything it takes to get one win.
I say it again this is the best squad we have had for a very very long time, and the most expensive in terms of being rewarded ever as a squad. Don't blame the owner please.
I believe that if you get the RIGHT manager (expierenced at this level) with the bunch of players we have, with a few tweeks, will get us out of this mess. Del, I believe has been put in the deepend and has no idea how to turn it around. I'm sure he would have learned loads, but this is far too big for him. His confidence in his own ability will be at rock bottom and so matters I believe will only get worse. I just HOPE the board acts quickly before it's too late......I just hope they stop pissing around with the cheap option and choose the right man for the job.
There you go again with the cheap option thing. I tell you now that Mouriniho wouldn't be able to save us with the disfunctional team we have. The last month or so has highlighted more than ever how little ability the "old" squad had. This in contrast to DM's signings who in Cunningham, Baldock and in particular Davies (who is better than this division) are clearly MUCH better players. As you well know, we have been massively goal shy for many years now so DM opted to spend most of his budget on at least making us more competitive on this front probably thinking that the pick up in overall team form at the end of last season would carry over and this would give us a decent shout of out scoring the opposition on enough occasions to do ok this year so he could carry on building for next season. Sadly, you can't replace the entire squad in one season and the old failing of our disfunctional midfield and defence has returned big time and it has to be said, the injury list doesn't help... If DM is culpable, it has been in the reasonable expectation that the players who upped their game at the back end of last season would maintain the improved form however clearly, they have let him down. Nobody didn't try today, it is just that the old failing of not having an effective midfield to support defence and attack has returned at the worst possible time and you need new players to fix this...
Continue to back a failing manager Prem and we will go down for sure. I understand that you backed him from the start, but I'm sorry he's just not up to it. You can make all the excuses you like, but it won't change my mind. It's one thing that GJ did have and that was being able to make ordinary players play well, as a team. Maybe that will come in time with Del....BUT NOT WITH US. He needed to have managed League one for a few years, learn the robes. This job at this level is far too big for him at present. The team is the disfunctional, because del has made it that way....a decent manager would sort it..Watch ole Mick & ipswich,he will sort it.
Yuo don't get it, these are not "excuses", we have a midfield who have no idea what a midfield is supposed to do and like I say, even the most experienced manager can't teach players who don't know what to do how to do it so you would be wasting your money on whoever you bring in... Johnson and Millen ae firmly to blame for the legacy of a poorly skilled squad, DM to a lesser degree in having more faith in some than he should have. This is nothing to do with experience and you can bring in whoever you like in charge, it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference... Probably the reason Coppell got out as he quickly sussed the squad for what it was, looks like Yannick worked it out too....
I'm almost lost for words and that's unusual.... Just to survive in this tough tough league we need to be beating the likes of Charlton, Burnley, Hull and Millwall at home. This is to survive, not to be top half of the table, or pushing for a playoff place, just to survive, but from those 4 home games we have a solitary, and pitiful 1 point and it's not good enough. Personally I didnt expect much against the likes of Blackburn, Bolton, Birmingham and Leeds but without a massive change in policy we are plummeting towards league 1. To make matters worse the goals have also now dried up and whilst other teams around us find some form, we cant even string half a dozen passes together let alone put some points on the board. Prem is right in that the Johnson/Millen/Copout era is part of the awful recent legacy, but before that under Tinnion and ever since, one man, and one man only is to blame, and that is Steve Lansdown, who is simply not fit for purpose in my opinion. Bad decisions made by SL and the board of directors over the last decade are where the blame lies.
For the very simple reason that we woud all be having to find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon because without him, THERE IS NO BRISTOL CITY - if he walks away, we fold tomorrow... Constructive critism fine - its all your fault, no...
I can't believe that some are saying it's down to managers of the past....Hang on, funds were given, isn't it down to the current manager who he wants in? Just excuses in my eyes. I don't like DOF's, most of the time confuses the situation. And who's to say that the DOF if brought in is any good....more waste of money. I partly blame the board, but I can understand how they arrived at our current situation. IMO, bringing GJ was a good decision, I still maintain he managed to get the best out of very ordinary players. Millen, The board thought he had learnt over the years and wouldn't rock the boat and was a cheap option as they had already given him a new 3 year contract. As it was, total waste of time. Coppell I understood, it was the type of manager that would move us to the next level. Problem was, he had issues, way before he came to us. Must admit, I NEVER understood wasteing money on the likes of David James, what was all that about. Then the next mistake, which I sort of understood, was bringing in Del. Up and coming, maybe could do a Paul Lambert. Big gamble that hasn't paid off. I'm not having this, "makes no diffference what manager comes in, with the players we have" Rubbish. A good manager would come in, a few tweeks and get it sorted. The quicker the better IMO
Only listened to second half yesterday as walking the dog seemed a better option early afternoon. Very poor again and having seen that Derek McInnes opted out of the post match interview, I very sadly, believe he will resign before the Blackpool match. I say sadly because he has been a winner throughout his career and I along with others genuinely believed he would turn us around. Some of his changes have been good for the future especially the Academy with our Under 21's looking like a collection of boys for the future. But I ask myself why we still have the same midfield that so nearly dragged us down to League One in Millen's time and why no dominating centre back? I feel that it is because the players he wanted to improve us, would not come here even if SL backed his judgement with the funds. Possibly the best example is Keogh who I understand married a Bristolian in the summer, yet still chose Derby. And why did Yannick Bolasie jump ship for a Palace side that looked awful here in August but has shown that that was not their true ability? It has been patently obvious that all our midfielders, including those who are thought of as exciting raiding wingers, just do not have the ability/consistency to perform at CCC level. DMc has made his mistakes but I for one believe we will see him become a hugely successful manager elsewhere. What a big shame it will not be at Bristol City if he decides to leave us! I'm coming home for Blackpool so everyone pray that I'm the lucky mascot as my only other games so far were Palace and Cardiff.
"I can't believe that some are saying it's down to managers of the past" I cant believe you're saying it's not? Our fans amaze me with their ability to look backwards with rose tinted spectacles, "Millen was better than this" "Johnson wouldn't have taken us down" ummm I was there, and it was equally as shocking... Gary Johnson went on a 9 games losing run when he got here and then went on to become everyones favourite manager? A manager who was at his highest level with us (nobody seemed to mind that?) oh how rosy the past was looking back with hindsight..
I said before the Brum game he would not get past 8 straight defeats and I stick with that If we don't get 3 points off Blackpool I think Del will be on the carpet, then with tough (arn't they all?) games to follow that, it may well be 10 on the bounce and SL will not risk that I am sure. I have backed Dell up till now but the longer this goes on, the less my faith in him is getting. I so so soooo wanted him to be the new saviour and put us back on track but that just aint happening. We can't buy a bloody goal now, let alone a point................
Yes he lost seven after a couple of months being there, NOT after a year with his own players brought in. I was there as well Banksy and although towards the end of GJ's time it was poor, he gave us the best times there for many years.
Will we? We'd struggle for sure, and we'd not be able to pay off our players. But from the sounds of things, our players simply aren't up to scratch and perhaps using the academy in League 1 wouldn't be so bad? Lansdown has worked wonders for us, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be questioned for poor decisions in running the club. For the record, I don't want McInnes to leave. We all knew that the Scottish leagues are largely inferior to the Championship and that he'd struggle to adapt fully. I mainly don't want him to leave because we cannot replace him with anyone better. If we can't spend £1m to land Anthony Gerrard when we desperately needed a defender then how on Earth can we attract a talented manager? McInnes is the best we can get.
Love your trains of thought prem! Like you I know we need to get a lot of internal issues sorted before we can move ahead and regain respectability.
That is not strictly true. As Mr Lansdown converted his loans into shares he can walk away while remaining the majority shareholder. If the stadium was put back into the clubs ownership city could loan money from it as an asset to balance the books while shedding players to get a squad size that equals close to income. Cant see any of that mind happening.
Your taking the piss ain't you the best squad we have had for years I know we were bad before but **** me that central midfield and defence is a ****ing joke. We have the forwards sorted we have tried numerous occasions to get the defence sorted. People whine about why Del sticks with Skuse and Fontaine its because they are the better if the ****e we have and they should be replaced as well. I can't believe I was even wishing Elliott comes back soon, perhaps I was stuck in the past. I don't think for one minute the game plan was to play long balls up to the 5"8 forward against the 6"6 defender no sane manager would even entertain that thought. The players won't take responsibility for the ball they just wanted rid of it as soon as it came near them.
ROD the ball is a hot potato, the players have lost their confidence, why because our master chops and changes his team, plays players in wrong positions throughout The first half of the season. Remember back to the start of the season,we looked awsome, where has that gone,it seems Del has drained all the confidence out of the players. Baldock looks a pale shadow of the guy that arrived,Anderson not getting a look in,very strange goings on at the gate. To sum it up SL has backed his manager fair play to him, what a loyal chairman, but one thing for sure the fans will not tolerate the crap we experienced yesterday. SL might back his man,but if Ashton Gate erupts he will have to make changes. If we get tanked against Blackpool it will be the worst run in our history in believe.
