When Mike Walker was our manager - PL in the 90's, attacking to opponents to death was his policy. It worked really well for a while but when we did come unstuck we generally did it in style. Arsenal away 0-5, Blackburn Away 1-7 are brilliant examples.

In the Championship, and maybe in any other league an emphasis on attacking well probably get you so far but also probably not quite all the way.

Peterborough Utd in League 1 this season are perfect examples. Scored goals for fun but also conceded a bucket load of them. End result - play offs instead of an auto spot.

This is what makes football so beautiful, they are so many different ways of winning. Each team has to play to its strengths and that is what good managers get their teams to do.

Example - Brendan Rogers...tried to turn Reading into a passing side = bottom three
Went to Swansea, who were already a top passing side = top three and play-off final.

I honestly think Peterborough were only good enough for a play-off spot anyway and Ferguson got more out of them because he knew what were their strengths, having been manager for so long. At Preston, maybe he couldn't work it out, that's why he may have failed.
