I don't enjoy spreading doom among our fraternity, but I had a very distressing chat with my reporter mate last night. before I start, I just want to emphasise that NOTHING has happened yet. My mate said he'd be completely amazed if Suarez was still a Liverpool player come the beginning of next season. The last contract that he agreed to and signed does indeed have a 'buy-out clause'. If he goes to another PL club, it's 100 million. If he goes abroad, it's the mere pittance of 70 million. They haven't yet, but he says all the indications are that Real will come in for him and if they do, he will go. He wouldn't have signed the new contract if it had been any more that 70 mill. Now 70 mill is a huge amount of money, but Bale went for 85 mill. Who's the better player? No contest. This obviously may not happen, but my mate is as certain as he can be that it will. The only upside to this is that Rodgers will get 60 million PLUS all funds received from player sales, including Suarez. That being said, at the moment, Suarez is effectively irreplaceable. Well he is in my opinion. He's given us a great year, but ****, I'd be devastated to see him go. I've been watching The Reds for many moons now, over half of them 'in the flesh'. He's up there with the very best ever to have worn the shirt. I just hope Brendan can work some more magic. Time will tell. YNWA. PS if saint, gonzo or sky have already posted this, apologies. I texted them last night when I heard.
I've consistently said it would be around the £80m mark. Given he wanted to leave last summer, I'd see £70m as a successful move since we got a top notch season out of him that got us back in the CL and back on the map. £70m only looks a poor return if you look at it from right now.
is there anything to suggest it couldn't be £70 mill cash plus players? don't want to lose him obviously, but just wondering if the release clause is the total value of the transfer, or can include players as well, ie a sweetener (if that's even ****ing true losing a quality player!!!) just hope he can give us one more season, he can see we are getting closer surely. getting fed up of this club taking 2 steps forward and 3 backwards.
We do have to sell except Luis Suarez wants to go. He would have to hand in a transfer request. Is Suarez happy?. YES I would say. The world cup is complicating the whole matter.
I would imagine its a £70m clause. If Real offered £70m then why offer a player when its not required? If they try to get him cheaper they could offer £60m plus a player but then we don't have to accept.
Not worried. After last summer I stopped caring about whether he'd stay or go as long as either we got big money and 70m is big money, it wasn't to a domestic rival or he did his best if he didn't get to leave. Well he did the latter and if it's Real it will fulfil the second point. He's claimed he wants to stay and his previous claim was he wanted CL and to be fighting for titles...Well he just did one and has the other. So up to him. A combined 130 million is a lot of Money, we don't need to do a Spurs we know exactly what we need and would need if he went. Suarez is that good but what's the chances he'll put in the same level on two fronts next year? Obviously easier to build on if he stays but I don't think it's an absolute disaster if he doesn't... Unless Brendan screws the pooch in the window.... It's what makes it exciting....of course it's another summer of him talking to south American press, and every wum insisting he's gone...eventually they'll be right....Lol....
that's not answered my question as you don't know already answered that in a sweetener, also to balance the books maybe with wages?
Suarez was adamant he wanted to leave last summer. i did always find it hard to believe that he did a complete 180. Even if you do have CL football now. Problem is he is one of those players that is proven in the PL and an ass kicker when it comes to goals. If you buy anyone else its a risk because you run the risk, like every other signing, of him becoming an expensive flop (ie Torres for Chelsea, Carroll for Liverpool). He is irreplaceable in that you KNOW he is awesome for you already, so you are replacing a certainty with a mystery. I am sure BR will spend the money more wisely than Kenny or than AVB did with Spurs' Bale money though. Not many players turn down Real Madrid unfortunately. On a side note, if they pay £70m for Suarez.........HOW MUCH ****ING CASH DO THEY HAVE?! They can spend £150 million every summer with impunity. Pfft. Rich Batards
Well unless one of us is privy to Suarez's contract, none of us actually know I sincerely doubt RHC's mate know's the finer details. Edit: anything other than a straight forward cash amount would surely be opinion based when judging the value. Therefore, we'd be able to claim they'd not met the release clause.
No idea on that. My guess world be that 70 mill is the total amount, so if a player was coming the other way, it would be deducted from that figure.
Rodgers HAS told my mate he wants rid of SEVEN on the current main squad. They won't all go this window.
To be fair, we're going to get speculation like this before and during every transfer window until it actually does happen, so I'll just wait and see. If things are already under way behind the scenes then I'd rather it happened soon so we have time to spend the money wisely. I'm surprised about the claim that there's a £100M buy-out if it's another PL club, because I thought JW had said we'd refuse to sell to a rival. I know RHC puts great faith in his (manc-loving) journo mate, but he has been wrong before. Anyway, who knows? I can't be bothered getting worked up over it.
