On this day 18 years ago City were celebrating their greatest victory, having beaten the mighty Bayern Munich on their home ground, the first (and still only) English side to do so the previous night. Could Lambert bring back those days we had under Mike Walker again? Would be good to see City back in Europe, If Stoke & Fulham can compete, so can we.
If we can find a way in to the play offs with PL at the helm I would be confident of putting up at least a good a show as we did under MW, probably better if we could avoid the really big teams in the early stages.
i think its a bit early to be dreaming of a return to european football! lets just make sure we are playing premier league football next season shall we? i watched stoke last night and have to say i can really see them winning that competition - teams haven't got a clue how to deal with their play! they aren't even playing their first team in these matches!!
If we had a bus parade to mark all of our magnificent achievements down the years you would never get the damn thing back!
Looks like all the movie directors have got it wrong then as I have never seen a dinosaur movie with buses in
what? three things? yeah, numerous! you've done bloody well for a small club but you are not an illustrious club by any means. liverpool and manchester united yes, ipswich no.
Jealousy is such an ugly emotion Supers! No one can take away my memories of the FA Cup final and the UEFA Cup final in Alkmaar. I can tell my grandchildren some great stories, much better than winning a Milk Cup once upon a time don't you think!
JWM - I am still waiting for the day you guys actually win the Championship and wait for the gloating of winning a trophy. It is probably the only trophy either of our team are ever likely to win again
great memories for you i'm sure warky old chap thing is, i wasn't alive when any of that happened warky so it means nothing to me, in the same way as i'm too young to remember us winning the league cup - it means nothing to me, nothing at all! i'm sure i'd have been very jealous had i been alive to witness ipswich winning a couple of trophies but i wasn't so it means jot to me. what i can remember is nearly winning the top flight on three occasions in the late 80s early 90s, reaching 2 fa cup semi finals, beating munich, play off heartbreak, winning the championship, winning league one and being runners up in the championship... during this time ipswich have won the old division two and a play off final. you may not agree, but during my lifetime, norwich have had lots more 'nearly's' and far more to celebrate than you lot. as this is what has happened in my lifetime its all that matters to me. you might not get a trophy for a 'nearly' but you can still get the same brilliant memories, even in defeat. at the end of the day, none of it matters today - its great having memories but they don't affect what is happening today with our clubs. hopefully you lot have sorted yourselves out now and we can create some new memories of us BOTH in the top flight
i think your club were incredibly fortunate to land bobby robson, a man who i think everyone from norfolk had a lot of time for, and as i understand it from my father, if it had been down to the supporters you'd have had him sacked in his early days - your chairman is who you should owe the most gratitude! you had tremendous success for a small, provincial club for maybe a decade but i think i speak for most people my age and younger when i say we aren't bothered when ipswich fans bang on about their trophy cabinet as we never lived to appreciate it, nor experience how we would have felt at that time. we may have felt jealous; we may have even considered it brilliant for the region - i have no idea, but in my lifetime we've had great times at norwich and utterly dreadful times and a couple more trophies in the cabinet wouldn't make a difference in that regard. most ipswich fans who seem to think its important didn't witness their success either which makes it all the more ridiculous i wouldn't change a thing as i love my football club... well, maybe gunny would have cleared that bloody back pass!
I think you have been very fortunate to land Lambert by the same token! I think you will find that Bobby needed us as much if not more than we needed him at the start of his tenure. John Cobbold and the Cobbold family built up our great club and Mr John gave Bobby the time he needed and offered to resign himself when the fans were getting restless! Its easy to be all sanctimonious Supers about something that you know very little about. Yes it is all now ancient history but at least I can say that I was there to witness it all happen. You beat Bayern in their own backyard a few years ago! Well done! If you match what we achieved in our first season back in the premiership (in your lifetime) then I may give yoy a pat on the head and say well done again. The Ipswich way has always been to make an impact when it happens. We may go up this year and if we do and you stay up then all the better!
Dismissing the past just because you were nt around to witness it, is sadly a problem with todays youth Warky.....Unless its been Tweeted 10 seconds ago nobody cares
Warky, this is going to sound 'wummy' but I am genuinely interested, what's the highest finish/achievement Town have had without Sir Alf or Sir Bobby?
