    On this day in 2000, Referee Uriah Rennie was demoted from his Premiership duties after his baffling red card for Alan Shearer and various other blunders during the season.

    Does anybody remember the red card? I couldn't Adam and Eve. I think Rennie must have had something personal afainst AS, unless it was just that he wanted to be seen as the big man instead of big Al.

    On another topic, does anyone remember the red card Shearer got for flinging that player off him that was grabbing on to his shirt and wouldn't let go?

    I recall that Rennie made seasons worth of baffling decisions against Newcastle.

    It seemed almost as if he had a vendetta.

    I tried to find it on youtube but to no avail, however I did find Shearer being on top comedic form with the added benefit of Robbie Savage getting clotheslined in the face.. Hope it will suffice..

    I see Rennie all the time. He lives in Sheffield and we used to go to the same swimming baths. His tackle is... something I haven't seen. He's also honorary president of Sheffield FC and was at the rematch of the first game ever organised football game (Sheffield FC vs. Hallam FC) last week. Seems a decent guy and does a lot of charity work and working with kids. **** ref though

    Just couldn't stand him. I hated it when I saw his name down as the ref for our games. As it was said before, it seemed as if there was a personal vendetta aganst us.

    I've seen the Shearer 'elbow' before and it is amazing. It's a shrug to get ahead of the man and suddenly he's off. I get why people think he has a vendetta against us

    not sure but there was a player grabbing onto Shearers arm/shirt and Shearer got pissed of and swung around and threw the player off him.

    Re the Lennon incident.

    An incident during a game against Leicester City in the league saw Shearer charged with misconduct by the FA, with media sources claiming that video footage showed him intentionally kicking Neil Lennon in the head following a challenge. The referee of the game took no action against Shearer, and he was then cleared of all charges by the FA, with Lennon giving evidence in the player's defence.

    I remember that game you're on about AB. I thing he went up for a header with someone on the half way line and got sent off. Villa I think.

    Think it was Charlton the one where Shearer shrugged him off, pretty sure the card got overturned after the game though.

    Al didn't take any prisoners and was a hard man to play against but he wasn't dirty.
