On this day in 1927 Cardiff City won the FA Cup April 23rd – St. George’s Day – It's a special anniversary in the history of Cardiff City. It was on that day eighty-seven years ago in 1927 that City went to Wembley and won the FA Cup by beating Arsenal 1-0 with a 73rd-minute goal credited to Hughie Ferguson after a slip by Arsenal’s Welsh International goalkeeper Dan Lewis. The Final was not the last match of the 1926/27 season however with three First Division games and three Welsh Cup ties still to play. Following our Wembley victory the Bluebirds traveled to Birmingham City four days later, winning 2-1 with two goals from Ferguson. The team were photographed with the F.A. Cup before the kick-off that day, and although defender Tom Sloan and forward Len Davies, who had both played at Wembley, were not in the team at Birmingham, they were at the game and were included in the photo below. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/onthiscardiffcityday-1927-fa-cup-1504616.aspx
