I remember all of these: [h=1]On this day[/h]9 May, 2013
    1999 –
Sunderland broke records on the final day of the 1998-99 season with a 2-1 win over Birmingham City. The win was Sunderland’s 31[SUP]st[/SUP] of the campaign, a Division One record, whilst the 105 points the Black Cats racked up was also a new division high.
1992 – After finishing 18[SUP]th[/SUP] in Division Two, Sunderland became the lowest placed cup-finalist in 43 years as they lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the ’92 cup-final.
1987 – A 3-2 home defeat to Barnsley meant that Sunderland would have to play a play-off match against Gillingham to decide whether or not they would be relegated to Division Three. The Black Cats drew 6-6 on aggregate with the Gills but went out on away goals.
1973 – A crowd of over 43,000 packed into Roker Park to greet the FA Cup winners ahead of the Black Cats’ game with QPR. Rangers ran out 3-0 winners to confirm their second-place finish whilst Bob Stokoe’s side revelled in the club’s finest hour.
