On this day 6 years ago 8th April 2008, Rovers travelled to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest. The line ups were: Forest... G Paul Smith D Matthew Lockwood D Wes Morgan D Luke Chambers D Kelvin Wilson M Kris Commons M Sammy Clingan M Chris Cohen M Lewis McGugan F Brett Ormerod F Junior Agogo Rovers... G Steve Phillips D Aaron Lescott D Craig Hinton D Steve Elliott D Joe Jacobson M David Pipe M Stuart Campbell M Craig Disley M Chris Lines M Lewis Haldane F Rickie Lambert McGugan made it 1-0 to Forest after 33 mins with a shot from distance around 35 yards. Lambert made it 1-1 after 64 mins with a header into the top corner from 12 yards. The game ended 1-1 Forest ended the season 2nd winning automatic promotion to the championship. Rovers finished 16th - 5 points clear of relegation. 6 years on, Forest is now 7th in the championship fighting to get into the play offs. While we are where we are at the bottom end of league 2. Dod any of you go to this game?
Just to correct you CJS , it was Steve Elliott who got the equaliser - whatever website you got that from must have mistaken his identity. I remember listening to this game on Radio Bristol, and this was a good performance. But all in the past I guess...
When you look at the two squads almost all of the Forest squad either played, or are currently playing at a higher level than League 1, and almost all of the Rovers squad (with the notable exception of Sir Rickie) are either retired or playing at a lower level than League 1. Trolls must have been doing something right to have the likes of Jacobson (Newport), Pipe (Newport), Disley (Grimsby), Elliott (Cheltenham), Haldane (Yate Town), Lescott (Halesowen), Campbell (Tampa Bay) playing to a level that could take points off Forest at home.
