I believe I've read it correctly: to counter Barmby's supposed claims of no transfer money, the Allams have said they would have provided for a £30-40k a week player in January, for the rest of the season. What kind of "big" player is going to want to sign for someone on a 4 month deal, except for a crocked one with an expensive blow habit Reeks of incompetence, not inexperience, on the Allams part, even more so if it was a name they conveniently plucked out of the air for the interview.
I believe they are refering to the fact that Jason Roberts has cost Reading 30k/40k a week on loan for the rest of the season and that he has changed their season.
Yep, they said Billy Sharp was one name, and a PL loanee was another option, presumably Roberts as I can't think of anyone else that would have been at that level and available. Although once Reading were taken over they signed him on an 18 month contract, so the loan would have had to be done early in January.
funny thing about Sharp too... why would he have signed for us when 2nd place Southampton wanted him at the same time ?
There were rumours that he wanted to stay in the area Hullborn, but I agree with your point. I'm not sure that Billy Sharp was ever really seriously on for us but happy to be corrected!
After we beat Reading in January we were in 5th place and only 5 points off Southampton. Given the start they'd had to the season we were catching them so it would probably have been a bit of a coin toss over which of us would have finished higher up. That's if they were even in for him that early in the window. It was a late move for him so for all we know they might have been after Roberts and decided to go for Sharp after he joined Reading.
