    I dunno. You lot decide.

I don't really care and will probably dip in and out based mainly on athletics rather than swimming. Rowing, cycling etc.

It is in Paris though so an all day entertainment for anyone not at work all day

Yes it's worth having a thread. Gives us something else to talk about and there will surely be some comment worthy incidents.

Will a one watch the clay pigeon shooting, kayaking and monmdern pentathlon.

I do hope so. I won't have time to figure out who is best with a shot gun, who can paddle up stream best and who can make a horse trot about and do other things which I've forgotten about.

I will actually watch any Olympic event if I'm in the mood. I've been known to take in fencing and judo in the morning and bmx and gymnastics in the afternoon, none of which I have any real interest in. I find that once I start watching, I can get tuned in to most sports other than golf, cricket and rugby and women's boxing which just shouldn't be allowed.

I'll watch most things in the Olympics but there are certainly some I won't watch, like dressage, judo or gymnastics

I love horses so I'm looking at the horses rather than the riders in the dressage. I also like learning new things which is why I will watch judo or gymnastics or fencing to work out what you have to do to win. There's no excitement in watching them but I'm all about opening my mind to what they are all about. Having said that, I know instantly which sports are never going to interest me like cricket or American football - not in the Olympics, I know but tried watching to see what all the fuss was about. <laugh>

Last olympics there was the "female" skateboarding which really means about 4 or 5 12 year olds or whatever faux competing and getting medals.

If that's not at least developed a little then it should be a hard drop from the line up.

This is the Olympics. Come back when you actually have a sport, not a small group

It's about expanding the viewing audience and maybe getting youngsters into participating in something loosely called a sport.

Can't watch something if it didn't offer excitement, boredom makes me restless and I'm easily distracted

BMX for you. Most excitement the Olympics has to offer.

I can't sit and watch telly for long, I'd rather be doing something, so I never really take the time to get involved in watching sporting events unfold.
Even on a PL weekend, I rarely watch more than two games in a day.
I hardly ever follow TV series, and could never watch more than two hour-long episodes of anything in one sitting.

Can't create a scenario where that medal is as valuable as a global sports medal.

Not saying a aport has to be a majority sport but there has to be at least a decent smattering of courtesy participating and a standard.

A good guide imo is whether it's got a proper world federation and championship thst can be recognised.

We all laughed at beach volleyball and some leered at girls behinds back when it was put in in 1996 and it should never have gone in then as it wasn't orga used as a World sport. It had history in the USA but since then it has become a pro sport across several countries.

I really think they should only have demonstration events if they want to promote a sport and no medals and come back if the sport takes off and organises.

It had a long history and x games to back it.

Bmx is a good sport that waited his turn to come in Imo. Very much an exciting event like mountain biking and others you don't get to see a lot of.

You're putting forward a really good case not to have an Olympics thread <laugh>

Some sports are just aesthetically pleasing and good to watch for a come down from a really exciting game or contest. Everything doesn't have to be a million miles an hour. I appreciate though, that we're all different and want different things from our sports viewing.

I love the idea of the Paralympics and similarly if you can get as many people as possible participating in sports and activities, which I guess is akin to what you're calling those events that aren't really medal worthy, then I'm all for it. I think a lot of people have been 'saved' by sports. Nothing wrong with giving someone a skateboard and the promise of a medal to keep their focus on something worthwhile as opposed to sitting in front of a screen playing video games or worse, just wasting their time on nothing very much at all.

I'm not an Olympics fanatic mate but I like that it gives us chance to watch sports we wouldn't usually get to see. I just think done are extremely pointless and boring too <laugh>

Archery is interesting initially, for a shot three or four shots, then becomes dull
