I don't know what sort of interest there is amongst you with the Olympic Games, but rather than have a number of random Olympic related threads I thought I'd leave this sticky open for the duration, so please put any Olympic comments here rather than start new threads.

Cavendish has already won a test run, held on a shortened version of the same route. The race itself will be 150 miles (255 k) which is pretty long (Milan San Remo is longer 298 k), so a good break could cause problems for the British team.

I went to Great Britain v New Zealand today at the Millennium Stadium. It was quite a good match, Britain played very well in bits and dominated at some points, albeit New Zealand were on top at some points. Britain won 1-0 and the goal was good, from a free-kick. An earlier free-kicked had curved like a banana but the keeper had saved it. The atmosphere was really good as well, everyone was really into it and there were lots of chants mostly "GB *clap clap clap* GB *clap clap clap* etc" and "Let's go GB *clap clap* GB Let's go". The ticket also covered the next match Brazil vs Cameroon and Brazil won 5-0 although the scoreline was a bit unfair on Cameroon as two of the goals were from set pieces (a free kick and penalty) which were given quite harshly (from Cameroon's point of view). Unfortunately quite a few people left for the second game so the atmosphere wasn't as good.

Surely that warrants some kind of nuclear "first strike" ? <whistle>

2.5 mens games played and 2 red cards already shown. Yesterday there wasn't a bad tackle to be seen. Maybe that's one of the differences between men's and women's football.

I went to see Handball yesterday- I recommend you watch the next match on TV, especially Norway on tonight at 21:15.

It is an exciting sport to watch, there's normally 60 goals per game ! <ok>

Went to the quarter final between Senegal and Mexico today, and bought tickets for the final next week Saturday. Rooting for GB!

Anyone see Cav at the Velodrome today, he sat in all the way, in the commentary booth and was a major success. He would make a good pundit in the years to come.

    Well done Mark.

Just watched the Women's football match on BBC - USA beat Canada 4-3, with a winning goal after 122 minutes, just as the match was heading for penalties.

Canada were superb, and the Yankees a bit aggressive, BUT, what an exciting match !!
