Interesting interview with Chris Kamara in this morning's Metro newspaper. He's talking about which players should make up the GB football team next year. Although brief, Grant Holt is mentioned, biased I know but he'd be a strong head to guide the youngsters.

What are your thoughts on Holt and other possible players from our squad who you think may deserve a chance?

I don't think we should ever ever enter a 'GB' footie team for anything - it's just what FIFA are waiting for - they'll make us enter a GB team for the world cup and European championship if we ever do. So NO No No! :emoticon-0149-no::emoticon-0149-no:

from what i understand, fifa couldn't give two hoots about the olympics and whether we enter a british team or not! i think its a great idea - it would give exceptional young talent such as gareth bale and even the likes of darren fletcher (one of the most underrated players in europe) the chance to play on an international stage in a major tournament. its only cos the scottish and welsh are so up there own arses and don't want any connection with england that they are against it. ask their players - they are WELL up for it, representing britain in their own country is not a chance that will ever arise again!

Won't the majority of players have to be under 23? Think there can be 3 older players. Wouldn't it wok like the under 21s where someone who plays for England u21 still has an option to play for the Scotland first team, for example. I know it's not the same thing but it hasn't caused fifa to say we must have a GB team.

FIFA have categorically stated, publicly, that GB can enter a joint team with impunity!

They couldn't back-track on that statement without losing face in the world of International Football!

I would suggest putting together a team from the English and Scotish leagues that excludes anyone playing in the top flight of either.

There are not too many full internationals at the lower levels, but there are a lot of good hungry players whose clubs would be happy for them to get some 'shop window' time. The superstars of the Premiership already have all they need. Euro's, World cups, Premier coverage both north and south of the border. Lets recognise the small guy for once and show that there is another level to our game. It is not all about superstars.

I know I have not included the N. Irish or Welsh leagues in this, but there are plenty of Irish and Welsh players in England and Scotland to make up for it.

on reflection, maybe include the bottom half of the scottish prem as the clubs there could do with a boost just as much as most English lower league ones.
