    Not fooball related except for the pies but I was chatting with a mate at dinner time, of all things about Clarks Pies, the conversation then stretched to other good old firms that sold pies in our area and are now long gone.

    Here are a couple of names from the past we came up with..

    * C.T. Harris of Calne....Pies and Bacon..http://www.francisfrith.com/calne/p...gle.co.uk&utmcmd=referral&utmccn=google.co.uk

    * Spears...Bristol...Pies, Sausages and Bacon...https://www.flickr.com/photos/brizzlebornandbred/12793857955/

    * Hilliers....Pies,Bacon, Sausages....Nailsworth...http://www.gsia.org.uk/reprints/2005/gi200530.pdf

    * Stan Thomas... Pies and Pasties...Merthyr Tydfill became Peter's Savoury Products....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter's_Food_Services

    * Bowyers....Pies and Bacon....Trowbridge....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowyers

    Can you remember these and any other old established Bristol Companies long gone, Courage's, Will's Tobacco, Mardons, Cadbury-Frys to name a few..?

    Used to love Woolworths at Christmas time. It's where I used to spend most of my Christmas carol money! (which was always quite a bit, remember 1 year me, aaron the bumpicker, his 2 brothers and ricky tainton got around £30 each over the whole month. Not bad for singing we wish you a merry Christmas over and over :D)

    Jones next door to Lewis's (no relation to present day John Lewis)
    ....and of course the Co-op building in Fairfax Street with its split levels and Pater Noster open-
    fronted continuous lift!

    My dad used to work as a conductor for the Bristol Omnibus Company in the 50's and one of my biggest enjoyments was riding with him on the late evening Bridgwater to Bristol (#38) route and going along Bedminster Down seeing the lights of the city down below. I remember seeing the sign on the top of the old eastend and if my memory serves me correctly it was for Georges Beer.

    I blame the Fry's factory at Keynsham ( spelled K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M ), (tell me where that came from), for my weight problem because it was a common school trip, as was the W.D and H.O. Wills factory (politically incorrect these days).

    Going to Bristol Christmas shopping was always a thrill and I can remember the coach parking in the bombed out basements of war damaged buildings (yes I am that old) and does anyone remember the first sex shop opening in Bristol? I never went there of course but I was told they had opened (lol).

    The memories flood back to the days I took the train from Highbridge to Parsons Street and watched my beloved Bristol City, John Atyeo and all. Just lovely!

    Don't think so as Gregg's was founded in 1930's in Gosforth.

    Brain's pork pies and sausages. Used to have a factory next to the Printers Devil pub
    by Halfpenny Bridge near Temple Way. Now demolished.
    On of my earliest summer holiday jobs was spraying the eggyolk mix on the pies!

    My god you have had a thrilling life pirate49. Reminds me of one of my buddies who was trying to chat up some lovely looking lady in a bar and when he asked her what she did for a living she told him that she chopped off chicken's heads at the local poultry plant. Needless to say he didn't take the chat any further.
