All this talk of old players returning has got me thinking (careful !). I was of the opinion that it never works, but then I remembered John Lukic and his triumphant return to Elland Road. So, any other returning Leeds heroes you can think of, and were they a success or a failure ? So for starters - John Lukic
David Batty Loved him just as much the second time around and the kind of player we could do with now.
On the failure side: Lee Chapman, sent off in the first game of his return, suspended for the rest of it. Brain Deane, scored against QPR, but that was all we got from him.
I'd forgotten that Deane came back for a while ! Probably says a lot about the impact he had. And I wish I HAD forgotten about Chapman's return - epic fail !
iT VERY RARELY works the second time around probably because they are older and usually slower and they don,t live up to our conception we had of them. I don,t think the prodigal trio will be returning but thats purely my view reading between the lines, they have no bond with Bates or Grayson
I vaguely remember Peter Lorimer and David Harvey returing to the club in the 80's when we were in the old second division. Harvey did OK and Lorimer pitched in with quite a few goals and beat the club's all time scoring record I think. That's 4 successes and 3 failures so far. We need more failures otherwise my theory will be proven wrong and SG might be tempted to sign Woodgate again !
i think we should go for all three in truth, we lacked that bit of experience last season and i for one would welcome any of them to the club despite what fans may say, its not about whether they are traitors or not its about whether they will get us promotion or not
Smith, Woodgate and Bowyer are all at the end of their careers. Woodgate hasn't played 2 games in a row since November 2009. He's way past it, and although is a brilliant defender, he can't prove his fitness and can't be reliable for half a season, let alone a full one. Smith would be good, but his wages would be too high. Bowyer would probably be the best of the 3, still energetic and mostly injury free. He's in talks with other clubs though.
Deane didn't just score one goal against QPR, he scored 4! How can you forget that? Okay, he didn't do much else, but he helped us out in a transitional period, and did more than Michael Ricketts.
Grayson's an old player who's done well on returning to the club. [NSFW]Don't get any ideas Clivey. [/NSFW]
