All of the talk of FA Cup runs has sent me to my old vinal collection and fianally got me to convet it onto iTunes using a vinyl convertor thingy I got for Xmas about three years ago. Just made me thing what music reminds you of previous seasons 1973 for me was Free Linisfarne and Led Zeplin. By the way I have just converted the Tom Robinson Band LP Power In The Darkness Wow what an album I had completly forgotten it.
I bought my dad one of those that are a record player and you can convert Vinyl to MP3 on your PC about 3 years ago, dont think he has even took it out the bloody box yet, not you is it lol I was 1 yr old when we got to the Final, so my taste in music was probably lullaby's, But when I was growing up it was Pet Shop Boys (yes shoot me still ashamed to this day) and U2, now its Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Dylan, Hendrix, etc, basically what my dad listened to, and i used to say it was crap when i was growing up lol
The only 'modern' bands I listen to are Muse and Radiohead, other than that Pink Floyd, Queen, Guns n Roses, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana etc. are all that I listen to, I can't stand most modern music and I'm 17!
In which case try some streetwalkers and family as well think you might like them an Tom Robinson, as I said earlier that album has just blown me away. Always remembersd it as punk, but punk it is not just good hard rock. Try Doctor Feelgood as well outstanding
Family = Burlesque, superb. Dr. Feelgood strange leg and neck movement by the guitarist, think lee brilleaux died. Good band tho. used to be a headbanger now calming down. Listen to Blues & Acoustic music now. Floyd probably all time favs tho.
Most of my music in 73 was bought in 8 Track stereo cassettes. As I had a portable 8 track player, which I took to work with me. (I still have it and it still works. ) Dark Side of the Moon, 8 Track. Atom Heart Mother, 8 Track. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, 8 Track. Houses of the Holy, 8 Track. Quite a few others on 8 Track. I used to average at least one LP a week back then. Band On the Run Alladin Sane For Your Pleasure Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Tubular Bells (Yep I got caught up in the hype.) Brain Salad Surgery Queen To many to list really, lots of Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Zappa etc. Not long after Quadrophenia being released I went halfies with my dear old Mum to buy a quadrophonic system. An early version of Surround Sound. Black Sabbaths "FX" was brilliant on it, the tones used to travel around the room.
I think this song was ahead of it's time One of the best R$B bands of all time. I saw Wilko at the Wickerman about 5 years back, he ain't lost it at all
Well today I will be converting Deep Purple Made In Japan Graham Parker Parkerilla Dexys Midnight Runners Too-rye-ay
I can remember being in a minibus going to Sheffield in 1973 for the semi-final and the bus was awash with drink of course but the song that sticks out is American Woman, it was blasting out on the radio, can't remember who sang it but it was a hit that year, great song, even better day out, can't remember the night for some reason, for the life of me I can't think why.
I was 14in 73 and could only get tickets in the Arsenal end that day me and my dad who is a Mag! Thing I remember, apert from the game was my dad buying me my first pint at the end of the game before we walked up the hill to get the football special train home.
