    Old boys in action.

Just picked this up from NUFC.com

Tuesday's League Cup fixtures saw a number of former Magpies in action, with Steve Harper's competitive senior debut for Hull City seeing him keep a clean sheet as the Tigers won 1-0 at Leyton Orient.

Swindon Town meanwhile took a 38th minute lead at QPR thanks to a first goal in their colours from Nile Ranger and went on to run out 2-0 winners.

And Alan Smith was in the starting XI for MK Dons at the stadium of plight. However his side contrived to throw away a two goal lead by conceding four times late on.

    History:
    United nations

Did you hear the one about the four French blokes, two Dutchmen, an Argentinean, an Italian, a Nigerian, a Senegalese and a guy from the Central African Republic?

They all started in the colours of Newcastle United on Saturday, the first time in over a century* that no English-born player was selected in the first XI.

    * it's possible that the club did field a team comprised of Scots in the 1890s, but due to the unknown birth places of certain players it's virtually impossible to be certain.

Nice to see Harps get off to a good start and keep a clean sheet for his new club.

Good to see Harper getting a bit practice in before the benefit match.

Never even crossed my mind that the day would come when there no Brits, never mind Englishmen in the team.
I still think that's part of the problem with the club at the moment no - no real lifeblood of belonging.

A long way from a team of Geordies advocated all those years ago.
