    Morning chaps,

Occasionally I get the urge to look up some former Spurs players and see what they are doing with their careers these days, this website is an invaluable source for such information http://www.mehstg.com/whereare_m2z.htm but sometimes one gets the urge for some more detail.

It is always a pretty random selection process as to who gets looked up, but here anyway are my findings from a brief search:

Reto Ziegler enjoyed 4 successful years at Sampdoria before moving to Juventus last summer. Unfortunately for him he played no role in the title winning side of last season, instead spending the whole year on loan at Fenerbahce. Now reportedly being lined up as Leighton Baines' replacement at Everton.

Teemu Tainio had a torrid few years after leaving us, with difficult and injury ravaged spells at Sunderland, Birmingham and Ajax. Since moving to New York Red Bulls he has undergone a rejuvenation of sorts and is regarded as their best and most reliable player. Unfortunately seems to be entering the Ledley phase of his career, where injuries are catching up with him and he requires a lot of pain killing injections.

Another player now operating in the MLS is Lee Young-Pyo, who moved to the Vancouver Whitecaps last year after a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund and a somewhat enigmatic couple of years in Riyadh at Al-Hilal.

The less said about some players the better, Kevin Prince Boateng is proving in Milan that for some players there is life after Tottenham, while Marton Fulop proved last season that our desire to off-load deadwood may be totally misguided, their incompetence can't do us any harm if they're rotting in our 'feckin reserves'.

Post any updates about players you take an interest in.

I can think of plenty of ex foreign players we've had that you think, christ!, just piss off back home! Funnily enough, Hossam Ghaly has done just that. :)

He retired for unspecified reasons - not, as some reported, because he has cancer.

Mido is at Barnsley (with the dreadful Ben Alnwick) and Steed has dropped out of football for a while.

Wasn't the story that his son had cancer. Turns out he doesn't even have a son.

    Not to mention Mario Kempes!

Hadn't realised Mark Kendall died so young. Sad, even though he was one of a long list of poor keepers we had in those days.

Mario Kempes played for Spurs in 1984 when he was on trial with us, he played in a pre-season game but was not offered a contract.

That threw me off too, I even spent around 10 minutes researching QK trying to work out when he could possibly have played for us.

Found the list very interesting, great way to waste some time on a boring Sunday morning at work, surprised by a few names on the list that went on to play for Gillingham, 17 players that I can recall seeing in a Gills shirt (8 of whom have played for us at right back!), and 4 who have managed the Gills too, all the players except one were on Spurs books first (no real surprise in that) only Peter Beadle went the other way and I don't think he ever played for Spurs in the first team. Without question the best player we have had with a Spurs background was Guy Butters, whilst Neil Smith and Andy Barcham both did a good job for us and I dont think we have seen the best of Charlie Lee yet.

A few other names I dont recall playing for Spurs other than those already mentioned - John Barnes, David James, Dave Beasant, and Ronnie Johnsen

I'll take your word for it there are 17 players on that site, but the list doesn't include Mark Cooper, who for a number of years was your record signing. David Pleat brought him to Spurs from Cambridge United and although he never played for our first team, he did win a league medal with our reserves before moving on to the Gills.

Fair play to Espen Baardsen who retired, in his mid-twenties, because he got bored of football. He could have easily moved around picking up an easy wage, like some. Last I time I read he was working for an asset management fund, whilst also making the odd TV appearence talking business, on CNBC !

    I remember Cesar Sanchez.
He was another one to put down with Stipe Pletikosa, who arrived at the club, barely got a chance to do anything and then left without fanfare, despite doing well elsewhere.

It would be good if we could still attract players with names like Bert Badger <laugh> <badger>

If you give Lee a chance I'm sure you won't be let down. Never managed the breakthrough at Spurs, but I went to see Peterborough a fair bit whilst he was there and he was a bit of a fans favourite. Plenty of endeavour and he'll work his socks of for you plus very versatile.
