Supposedly according to the rumour sites we are going to unveil a number of players today(the sites said Monday but that was Bank Holiday) I won't hold my breath though. I hope we get news that Flint has signed today anyone else would be a bonus, though one of the replies to the JET rumour said he had been seen at the Gate going for a medical, now I usually take that with a pinch of salt until I remembered a couple of years back someone saying the England keeper David James was at Ashton Gate for a medical and how everyone laughed that off. So fingers crossed(even though it makes typing harder) that we have some good news today.
The way things have turned out since, I wish that James had never come to us. It might all have been so different had SL not interfered as legend has it.
I rather feel that no matter who had been in goal even say David Seaman(at his best) would have struggled behind our defence.
Hawk - What I meant was that if rumours are true in that SL signed James behind Copout's back, which then caused him to walk away, then it may have been very different for City.
Coppell said repeatedly in interviews that SL phoned him and asked if he wanted the England keeper and his reply was yes.
I think I'm in minority regarding David James. Yes he was on a big salary but he also at that point just came back from world cup duty with England. I thought that even though he didn't keep to many clean sheets but without him some of the scores against us could of been horrendous. Met him once, he was opening the canteen in my former place of work, he was really concerned that he was going to get into trouble with Keith Millen for being late back to training that he begged Colin Sexton to call Millen to explain why. Wish we had him a few years before we got him. Shame that only memories we have were bad ones of him.
I am with ROD....I recon DJ kept some of our losses down to a minimum number of goals. It would of been a lot worse without him I think. Having said that, he still made some howlers to keep his "Calamity" name going!
