Gemma Gibbons. I love you mum. Summed up everything good about these Olympics and those that took place. And that souf London is wonderful. Still can't type that without welling up. What a pussy I am.
Top 5: 1) Jess Ennis's 100m Hurdle reaction 2) Mo Farah speeding up to take the 10000m 3) Sophie Hosking and Kat Copeland's celebration 4) Gemma Gibbons 5) Bradley Wiggins A lot of praise for the BBC too. Except Colin Jackson obviously. In 2052 when London next hosts the Olympics, Tom Daley will be in the Colin Jackson role.
For me.. 1) Mens Gynastics bronze - such a performance under pressure for each individual to keep up the good work. 2) Peter Wilson and him seeing his Dad directly after winning the Gold. Oh, and any sport where we creamed the Aussies. (so, basically, almost every sport then)
Nicola Adams as the first gold medallist in women's boxing. Jessica Ennis' domination in the heptathlon USA Women breaking a record held by East Germany Usain Bolt And this http://twitpic.com/aia7gx
Nicola Adams. Superstar. Tom Daley. For all those that have lost loved ones to cancer, but still continue to thrive in their memories. Jessica Ennis. Supreme. The BBC are really going to annoy me tonight. But I won't go on about it...
Best moment for me was the golden hour last Saturday night. The whole of the velodrome program and the opening ceremony where also worthy of a mention. Worst part, last night and the bitterness of the rest of the world to our cycling success.
It was pretty bad, IA. I muted large parts of it. Seeing Freddie control the crowd was my highlight. I miss that guy so much.
Amen to that....even though I'm only 19 so he was dead before I came about, what i've seen he was the ultimate front man, and would easily be in my fantasy band... along with Keith Moon and Jimmy Hendrix, maybe John Lennon writing too, bit off topic there
I saw Freddie do that. It was on a 'kind of magic tour' at wembley. If you want to see him at his best check out his live aid performance on utube, that was his mo farrah moment. If you want real showman call in Freddie and Bruce Springsteen but Freddie wins every time.
Watched the Live Aid one so many times and have it in MP3 format just for my ipod too >< Massive Queen fan, get me a time machine back to Live Aid any day
That is a great thread in the making, Ted. I use that as a conversation piece with friends and family. My band would consist of - Rob Thomas - Lead Vocals and Guitar Lindsey Buckingham - Guitar Ray Manzarek - Keyboard John Bonham - Drums Izzy Stradlin - R. Guitar Ronnie Wood- B. Guitar God knows what they would sound like!
Freddy Mercury is the greatest singer of all time - I'm sure this will provoke debate, but IMO I am yet to hear better.
There's loads more than this but here goes - 1. Burt Le Clos practically launching himself out of his seat talking about his son Chad - "my beautiful boy". 2. Peter Wilson and his Dad hugging after he won the Gold. No funding, not a penny - relying on his parents' support and part-time jobs to get him to the top of his sport. 3. Gemma Gibbons - can't find the words to express my admiration for her. Inspirational. 4. David Rudisha's 800m run - never seen anything like that, sheer blistering speed and complete self-belief. 5. Samantha Murray talking after taking a Modern Pentathlon Silver when ranked only 78th in the World - "Honestly, if you have a goal, anything you want to achieve in life, don't let anybody get in your way, you can do it. "There are so many people and so many things that will feel like they're trying to set you back but honestly, find the path you want to take in life and follow it, stick to it because if I can do it - I'm a normal girl - anybody can do anything they want to do." Dead right.
The sailing bloke (cant remember his name) who put his silver medal around the neck of his young son.The look on his sons face.
Some funny, some not so, but I thought I'd share this link anyway: http://mofarahrunningawayfromthings.tumblr.com/
