I sort of agree with him, except that a 7th or 8th place finish is pretty unrealistic, we won't be a couple of players away from promotion, we'll be a manager and a Chief Exec away <doh>

    Comment from Jewell

“I hope next season is successful. But successful might not be measured in getting promotion. It might be that we just finish outside (the top six) but have a really good squad, a really good team, and we lack just those two or three players to make the push.”

Oh well, looks like he has already accepted another boring season is on the horizon!! Nothing like showing ambition and getting everyone pumped up ready for the next campaign!!

Talk about lowering our expectations.....So if we finish 8th lets say I assume some will see that as progress.....possibly, but it will only get us back to the same place in footballing terms as when ME first walked in..!

Not exactly fighting talk, not what the supporters wanted to hear, and will hardly encourage supporters to flock through the gates, might indeed effect the type of players we attract with his statement, perhaps he knows something, that we do not.

Good to see Paul Jewell killing the mood already. I think you could find a better manager

The golden rule of pre season is no matter how good or bad you are you are always optimistic about your teams chances. And before that your manager has written you off.

Whilst perhaps naive at this point in the season to say something like that, I think he's right, even if maybe he shouldn't have said it. Sometimes I think he's too honest for his own good and needs to know when to keep quiet sometimes. A top 10 finish next season will be seen as progress over the past couple of years, certainly not progress since when ME first came in. There is no doubt we have completely missed a great oppertunity to have established ourself in the PL but we've actually flirted with establishing ourselves in league 1, which is sickening.

Part of the problem this season I think were expectations were too high at the club, in terms of fans and probably PJ himself, not helped by the continuous Premier League at the first oppertunity cr*p. Over the summer we had a squad that were really relegation material but due to the fact of this club being a club who's ambition it is to be in the PL and the fact we have financial backing I think PJ tried to do this too quickly bringing in so called 'proven' quality such as Bowyer, Bullard, Chopra, Ingimarson etc rather than perhaps looking at the long term but at the same time we needed players otherwise things could've been alot worse. So hopefully the club is starting to be showing a bit more long termism and realism in what progress from finishing 14/15th for the past 3 seasons is.

Very funny joke btw Spanish, had me in stitches.

    Zzzzzzzzz.

Jewell could say that ptc is a ****er and ptc himself would agree! Do you have to find something positive/correct in everything Jewell says, why not say 'What a stupid thing to say' and leave it at that instead of then going on to say 'but he is right in what he says'

The comment was bang out of order and its not the first time, the other week he said he had no plan for this season and now he comes out with a statement that is basically writing us off next season!!

Jeez, what a bunch of ****ing idiots we have running our club!!

What makes it worse is the fact that we have fans from other clubs coming on here and mocking us, have to say i'm a little worried as no comment from JWM yet, hope he hasn't read this and done himself in!!

Well said Guru, just read this below, could be a blessing!!

Norwich City are interested in Portsmouth defensive duo Joel Ward and Jason Pearce after scouting the pair on Saturday.

Canaries boss Paul Lambert sent his top spy to Fratton Park to check on the young centre-back pairing as he eyes potential bargains in the summer transfer window.
Pompey are expected to lose players again this year after their relegation to the Championship was confirmed by their 2-1 home defeat to Derby County.
Pearce, who has made 43 starts in the Championship this season, cost just £400,000 from Bournemouth last summer and was last week named the local newspaper's Player of the Year.
Leeds United, Burnley and Ipswich have also been linked to him but Norwich could offer a higher level of football for him next season.
The 24-year-old defender was linked with a free transfer to Leeds this week but he still has two years left on his Pompey contract.
Ward, 22, is another former Pompey youth team player who made his first-team breakthrough when they were in the Premier League two years ago.
Comfortable at the back or in midfield, Ward was the subject of a £1.5million joint bid from Ipswich in January but he refused to go to Portman Road.

Hopefully this is true and now Jewell will realise that neither will want to come to us. Thus saving us another summer of chasing these players that will never sign for us, he can then concentrate on other players!!
