Would be cruelly overlooked due to the fact that he's in the Championship. After a Season in the Premier League, if his performances continue, he'd definitely be mentioned by somebody.

If Moore can continue to improve and get game time in the PL then I can see him being looked at for 2016.

    It's all ifs and buts.

Moore has hardly played since Jan. As good as he has been this season you can really expect him to get even a little mention

Still not even a sniff for James Chester after we got all the Hull fans raving about him? Not a dig just wondering what the Hull fans thought the reason was? Did you over rate him or is he under rated?

... contrast with John Stones of course who has had marginally less mentions than his brother, Gall?

... joking aside, it will make little difference ... if Jagielka and Cahill are our first choice for Brazil we are fooked anyway ... they are way way short at that level ... our strategy has to be based on scoring more than the opposition in each game ...

That's fine if you're Brazil or Spain. We're fook'd either way.

I'd like to be wrong but I'm not holding my breath.

I rate Cahill exceptionally highly these days - he has really come on and i think Mourinho has been good for him.

Jags is 'safe' but i agree better is out there. Hasnt he been injured for ages anyway!?

... would this be SINCE last November when he was patently ripped a new one by a Chile side including such international galacticos as Jean Beausejour of Wigan? ... a game in which his individual mistake gave the Chileans their second goal? ...

... no dispespect meant ed (and please ignore my somewhat ascerbic sense of humour) ... Cahill is a good English style centre-half but there is nothing at all 'exceptional' about him as far as I can see ... I fear he (and the rest) will be turned dizzy and left panting by the cream of the attacking flair that will be on show this summer I'm afraid ... hence my point that our strategy must focus on scoring more goals than the opposition ... we will not be able to 'contain' the better attacking players out there ...

Our defence now is light years distant from Rio at his best, Ledley King, Des Walker, Mark Wright, Terry Butcher and, the greatest of them all, .... Sir BobbY Moore ..

He had a great start with us. Last season in the Championship teams started targetting his lack of height (they actually started it around the April whilst Barmby was our manager). Despite the fact we played 532 (meaning Chester should have been the free man, a role he's ideal for) we left a taller centreback as the free man all the time. That meant he was still good, but wasn't a standout player last season. This season we've had Davies plus who ever has been fit that week at the back, so Chester has been in and out of the side with injuries. I think he's played 22 games, which when you consider 38 league games and a run to the FA Cup Final isn't going to get you a call up. He's still got time, and he looks a decent PL defender, but he hasn't stepped up as much performance wise as he should have done. I reckon injury next season he'll push on though, with Bruce as his manager he's got someone who can tell him how it feels to be thought of as the best defender not to be called up. (Maybe he has and that's why he's opted for Wales, no point holding out for a squad where the manager has no intention of picking you if you don't play for one of the top clubs)

The fact is though we're a newly promoted side and we have I think the 7th best defence in the PL (at least a couple of weeks ago it was) that's built around Davies (fans' and players' player of the year and statistically the best English centreback in the PL this season) with 2 full backs in Elmohamady and Figueroa who have been shocking defensively. Davies still can't get anywhere near a 30 man squad, whilst Smalling has a disastrous season and is ever present in the squad. That says more than anything about England selection, if Davies can't make it nobody can while they're wearing our shirt. It's even reached the point where the manager is turning round saying he doesn't care how well people are playing because he's going to pick the same team as always. People in the media have been saying about Huddlestone having an outside chance, but if I had to pick one of our players for the England squad it would be Davies by a long way.

I have some sympathy with this Ricardo - the games I've seen of yours this year, Davies has played very well indeed ... personally I don't think Cahill, Jones, Lescott, Smalling or Jagielka are 'better' players ... certainly not technically.

I agree with what you're saying Ricardo.

This is why the England squad is a joke, and why we're going nowhere on the international stage.

I don't know why Hodgson even bothers watching games. He just picks the same core of players for the same clubs. IMO he's literally a puppet, doing as the FA tells them.

Prime example... If Ashley Cole goes to the World Cup and Shaw doesn't, I'm officially supporting Algeria. I give up.

On form this season I don't think Smalling is better than either of us, never mind Davies.

Personally at the back I'd go with:

    Baines/Shaw, Lescott/Cahill/Jagielka/Jones, Johnson/Walker, with Davies as a stand by.

Lescott is in because he's been at left back before, and if Shaw ends up being overwhelmed by it all he's still got backup for Baines. So if he names Cole I'd be tempted to stick Davies in the main squad. If Walker isn't fit I'd take Naughton. I know he's been playing left back (so has Johnson) but he's a right back and look who he's kept out of the team even in his wrong position.

What'll actually happen though is Shaw and Lescott will be replaced by Cole and Smalling. We can always hope for a few minor injuries this weekend I suppose. A minor tear to a hamstring here, a broken toe there, nothing major or career threatening.

I've seen Shaw on TV a couple of times this season and have no qualms about him being 'overwhelmed' - he is a confident young player both in defence and whilst bombing forward ... if he was Brazilian nobody would even be discussing this as a concern ... we need to go and be brave ... I'd start Shaw and Johnson as the full-backs because their attacking threat will give what is, let's face it, some pretty good opposition, food for thought ...

Chester is a good defender but I don't think he's international material. To be fair we don't have anyone who should be in the England squad for Brazil.
