ABERYSTWYTH Town have signed former Sunderland and Football League midfielder Sean Thornton until the end of the year. The 28-year-old midfielder from Drogheda was a free agent after a year out of the game following his release by Leyton Orient. Thornton started his career at Tranmere Rovers and made 11 appearances for the Wirral outfit before joining Sunderland for a fee of £225,000 agreed by a tribunal after allegations of an illegal approach. He did not featured in the Sunderland first team at the beginning of the 2002/3 season and joined Blackpool on a one month loan. On his return to Wearside he made just 11 Premier League starts and was unable to help the club avoid relegation. After a total of 49 appearances, he was transfer listed in 2005 and joined Doncaster Rovers for a club record fee of £175,000, making 59 appearances before being released to join Orient. He made 91 appearances for the O's and had a loan spell with Shrewsbury Town. Thornton was capped 12 times by the Republic of Ireland Under-21s but, after falling out with Don Givens, he was axed from the squad and has since never featured for his country. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// What his expectations were, who knows. but the reality is we all grow old, and then its too late for what might have been,,,,,,,shame realy, but its only life. nothing more nothing less. fun times are after work, never let that be forgotten, or when older you will realise, it was not worth it, todays fun is tomorrows sacrifice. anyway full link http://www.welsh-premier.com/index....5-seasiders-sign-former-sunderland-midfielder
Think Carrolls already made enough cash to last a lifetime, its down to him how his career pans out now. I reckon he may get his **** together and be a top player,
When I was a student I used to be out in Sunderland drinking 3 or 4 nights a week and I used to see Thornton nearly every time, surrounded by a couple of Pennywells finest lasses. He can only blame himself. I remember around that time talking to a few of the players in Diva and I told them id just seen Thornton and they all replied amost in sync 'hes a w****r' Says it all really.
Remember when David Rush through his career away with drink. I saw him out once in Hendon absolutely hammered the night before a game in which he played. He moved on very shortly afterwards for some reason.
WTF's a matter with Pennywell like? Admittedly i have moved into the leafy suburbs of Grindon but fondly remember meeting my wife at Pennywell school sports day. She was sucking a golf ball thru a hosepipe, and i thought, thats the girl for me.
