... which is quite bizarre - after all, they're 'only two wins away from the play-offs' http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/21495/town-topic-are-town-fans-overreacting-to-bad-start
Come on guys we can afford to be magnanimous in this situation. Sorry, for those who didn't get English Language GCE, we can afford to be bloody smug!
I do feel a little sorry for this guy though jesterjewell - This is the worst team I have ever seen I'm my ten years of watching Ipswich. He stared watching the season they got relegated and it's been crap for all those long 10 years - Things must be really bad now. Sad really
Could you imagine TWO divisions between us and the Binners? I stand to be corrected, but I believe I'm right in saying that that has never happened before ever.
Bet Mikey and Monarch are looking forward to a local derby again and elcoming the Binners to the Tesco Stadium. Oh, the irony ....
In answer to the TWTD page, Yes Town fans are overreacting. although it has to be said we are a piss poor outfit at the minute, however I expect us to claw our way back up the table and finish a disappointing 15th. We always start the season badly, it's become 'the Ipswich Way' To predict the questions of "why I expect us to improve.." We have goals in us, with Chops (been poor so far) Scotland (cult hero round here) Taylor (Going to be pivotal for us) JET (can do anything he wants... except work hard) and the style of Gung ho football we have played we will win enough games to get us out of trouble but ultimately we will be as bad as we were last year (in recent weeks worse) which is why the knives are out
If they did go down at the end of the season I wonder how many of those binners fans that gloated when we went down to keague 1 will show their faces and be prepared to take the flack they gave us when we went down
Yes Thai, but some things that have never happened yet are not going to happen next season either -- such as Arsenal in the second tier. Spurs fans may lie awake dreaming of it happening, but are perennially disappointed. Don't fall into the same trap! Especially since the single division gap may be maintained by circumstances you are conveniently ignoring (Championship/League1). Talk about giving hostages to fortune!
It may not happen to Ipswich this season I know but the current trend or cycle if you like would suggest they are more likely to go down before the go back up. Look at the increasing list of mis-managed clubs in recent seasons that found themselves in the 3rd tier, and most people said those clubs were too good to go down that far - Leeds, Norwich, Forest, QPR, Southampton, Coventry City, Leicester City for starters. It is not a foregone conclusion ITFC will escape the same trap door indefinitely.
No, it's not a foregone conclusion. But (following on from my edit of my previous post) which do you consider more likely: us in the Premier League next season, or Ipswich Town in League 1? There being 2 divisions difference between us next season is, I'd say, the least likely of the several possibilities.
I don't want to be smug because football can soon kick you in the goolies but I have to admit that every morning this week I have looked at the Championship table to see the binners lying 23rd and I have smiled. If they lose their next game which is a 6 pointer then the knives will really be out. Charlton are the latest visitors to the comedy store, could be interesting.
