A LEEDS United youth team player has gone on trial accused of raping a woman at a city centre hotel and filming the attack.

Simon Lenighan, 18, is alleged to have carried out the sex attack on the young woman along with another man, Nathan Campbell in a room at the Etap Hotel.

Leeds Crown Court heard the woman was woken by a chambermaid the next morning and had no idea where she was how she got there.

Lenighan and Campbell had left and her mobile phone and money were missing.

Police were contacted and video footage was found on Campbell’s mobile phone.

Robin Mairs, prosecuting, said: “What we say is both Campbell and Lenighan used their video phones to flim (the woman) while she laid naked in bed.”

Mr Mairs said the men were laughing on the video but don’t want to be seen on camera.

He added: “This video, the Crown says, is more than simply a sordid souvenier of what happened in that hotel room. It is more than a lack of decency.”

Lenighan, of Parliament Terrace, Harrogate, denies three charges of rape and one of perverting justice.

Campbell, of Grey Friar Walk, Bradford, denies three charges of rape, one of sexual assault and perverting the course of justice.

    The trial continues

Leeds need to sack him, and justice will see him in the clink for a couple of years. This fcuking trash mentality in football today needs to get stomped on. Then again, when a thug like John Terry is idolised its easy to see why young players take a wrong turn. The way football is going makes it simple to fall out of love with the game. The money even the most ordinary squad player in the Prem earns is just perverse, and standards and respect are slipping. It is getting ridiculous.

Read this yesterday. Just as he is starting to get in and around the squad as well!

How to **** up your career before it even gets going.

He sounds like a complete cock even if he is found not guilty, I wouldnt lose any sleep if he never kicked a ball for us again.

Agree with bucks, if this is true I don't care what he's like on the field. We don't need youngsters who already have this egotistical complex that they can do whatever they want. It's bad enough when top flight players get like that, let alone someone who hasn't even broken into the first team.

I'm hearing a few comments from the moral high ground here, but remember how we stood by Woody! If a player has been caught doing something illegal, should he be afforded the opportunity to rehabilitate? Personally, I believe we should make that offer if the player concerned is truly sorry & makes the changes to ensure it never happens again. Like Woody.

Perhaps it's the nature of this charge that causes such offence, but let's remember that the lad is innocent until proven guilty.

You are right, your lad is innocent until proven guilty.

But if he is found guilty he will almost certainly be imprisoned. I cannot see any club keeping a player convicted of rape on their books to rehabilitate him on his release if he said he was sorry.

If he was sorry he would surely plead guilty and show remorse in the first place?

I so hope that this isn['t true. If it isn't true, then I hope he sues the arse off everyone who put his name in the frame. Alternatively, if it is true, may he never darken our or any other club's door again. Potentially a silly prat. But as someone else has said, innocent until proven guilty.

Innocent until proven guilty lads. With lawyers in the family I know that rape cases are very rarely black and white.

Indeed Simon, but what was written in the YEP looks fairly damming on the face of it.

Even the local press love to spin things.

If he's guilty then, definitely, he deserves to go to jail and we should release him, but I'm never comfortable when people are already guilty in the minds of some people simply based on being charged (or in some cases even just arrested).

That's because what was written was on the basis of the start of the prosecutions case. The defence has not put its case forward yet

They've been charged, they've stolen her phone (which has been recovered) and they've recorded themselves doing something. No smoke without fire and there complete pricks for getting themselves in that situation.

What is it with Footballers wanting there mate to watch them bang away?
