That doesn't have such transfers in it....

Be honest, he picked Spurs for money AND the better chance of CL football.

Maybe the Yanks will dig deep enough for Joey Barton. Or Clint Dempsey.

Is the ink dry on Danny Murphy's new Blackburn contract yet? <whistle>

In fairness MITO we all know he aint Messi but what he is is a good young player. Isn't he just the sort of signing FSG claimed we would be bringing to the club? Young and exciting player at a reasonable price. ****s sake even Everton have signed players <laugh>

I do remember this time last year when everyone was slapping the owners on the back for getting the signings done early...granted BR is new to the role so needs time but the fact we can't compete with Spurs who have no CL and a wage cap is reason for concern. As I've said before if they pull a couple of gems out of the bag then happy days but if 8mill and 60 grand a week is too much for us (note the word IF) then we sure as hell aint gonna be chasing the sorts of players some people on here are dreaming about.

Also to be fair: today is the first day BR has actually had with the bulk of the squad.

Video; is great but face to face training will give BR his gut instinct of who will work, who needs work & who needs replaced.

That's true DF but Spurs/AVB didn't toss around waiting even though he wasn't even in the job. BR has been here weeks so why have we struggled to get a deal done for a player he obviously wanted. He doesn't need to watch videos to know we are light on goals and that Stevie G is unlikely to ever give us a full season again. We should have been easily in pole position for this lad and yet we missed out to bloody Spurs <yikes>

Well whose fault is that? There have been weeks of press conferences and nothing going on, I'd expect a new manager to have met with his squad the day of, or the day after his appointment.

By now we should be in the market. What are we waiting for? Mark Davies? Clint Dempsey? Stewart Downing v2?

We also "didn't" make the Aguero signing, we "didn't" sign Ronaldo, Jovetic etc when we could have. I think it's perfectly appropriate to judge management on the signings they didn't make. What if Gylfi becomes world class? Then 8m could be a snip and we are letting that go because of a stupid 60k per week.

Alarm bells are ringing and I think I speak for a lot of fans when I say we are getting restless. In this day and age there's no reason you can't scout someone in the time we have had under Rodgers. They better be preparing a new Messi or at least trying to make something happen.

New Messi or new Downing...you decide <laugh>

This is the point where we get shouted at for being "impatient" but patience doesn't sign players...these days the only thing that does is cold hard cash...at the moment I'm thinking we aint got a whole lot of that to spend.

And don't get me wrong, I don't mean sign someone on a whim but these days you can watch friendlies online and clips of every touch of a player in the previous season. I'm just wondering what they have been up to since we've got no clue. They haven't mentioned any targets or transfer funds. If they come out and surprise us all with behind the scenes dealings for some continental youngster then I will never again question our American overlords. However forgive me if I'm cynical but I haven't got much hope for that.

  9. Rodgers has said he has spoke to most the squad now. He couldn't meet up with the players straight away because the players were either on holiday or international duty. Plus, speaking to players is one thing, seeing them in action is another!

I think it is fair to say that is a big 'if'...<ok>

All the soundings for the last two months stated we didn't have a lot to spend this summer. £30M was knocked around divided by BR's 3-4 players??? Oh & who said BR was going to or even could bring in those 3-4 players all in this transfer window? Maybe 2 of his players wanted become available next year? Etc etc

Even if you take away the euros taking players away left right & centre the rest were on holiday. Should they be told to change their plans just because management decided to get a new coach in? Unrealistic.

I haven't see the BR list of his preferred players to make up that 3-4 so don't know where sig sat on it. Let's see come August who's been brought in & congratulate or criticise then.

You can be impatient all you like but even if they are acting on it you aren't going to know about it. :)

You may be right. I'm just angry a bit, capturing Sigurdsson would have alleviated a lot of pressure on the club and been a good signing. I'm just voicing my frustrations in the heat of the moment, it hurts when ****ing Spurs get one over us. I accept that I'm probably wrong about most things and I know I wont know what's happening until it happens. Still it feels good to get it off my chest <laugh>.

Still hope they hurry up in any case.

But the point still stands DF that Spurs had no manager, players on hols and at the Euros too. Its a safe bet to say Sig was definitely on the list and as he was the one available we should have been negotiating with him first not just whoever is top of the list. He was on the list and he was in a position to negotiate. For me this isn't just about Siggy its about the fact that the club should be backing BR especially in his first transfer window. None of us know the exact details and maybe this was BRs call but personally I doubt it. Fingers crossed we get a better player at a similar bargain price who's asking for lower wages <ok> I won't hold my breath though.

  15. What if it was Rodgers that chose not to get him? Whether that be because of the fee, wages, needs or want?

Then no problem <ok> unlikely though. Managers don't talk about players in the press unless interested. If having worked with him at Reading he didn't rate him highly then why sign him again? Not sure the fee would have been an issue and as I said before how much input will he have had in the wage negotiations? I doubt that BR.writes out the contracts.

Let me reverse the question and ask what if it wasn't Rodgers choice? What if he wanted him and the board have scuppered it?

Lol; oh by all means if even just to have something substantive to discuss it would be great if they announced it all tomorrow!

  18. Why is it that unlikely? Yes, Brendon clearly likes Sigurdson as a players (probably as a person too) but things don't always work out.

Maybe, after Rodgers left Swansea he spoke to Siggy privately and told him to act appropriately and speak to Swansea but ultimately he wanted him to join Liverpool. Then Siggy asked for a lot more money than what he had agreed to at Swansea AND met with Spurs too, wouldn't this feel a bit like un-loyal? Bit like being cheated on, stabbed in the back, etc? Maybe it was this attitude that changed Rodgers mind?

Maybe Rodgers does have a set budget afterall and as alternative options which he thinks are better value?

Not saying these scenarios are true, like you I have absolutely no idea. But that is just it, we do not know <ok>

This is possible; unless the price/salary was so over the top to be ridiculous, I can not see the board "showing who's boss" to a new manager (who has made clear he'll not suffer too much interference) over a player who; as you say is such a low price/risk. It would be the easy one to give BR so you can say no to the more expensive requests (if you're thinking along Machievelian lines) later.

Logic suggests there was more to it on Sigs side. I'm not being anti him just stating that for all that's been said in the press maybe just maybe this individual liked the sound of playing for AVB, Spurs & living in London to us. We'll obviously think he's a muppet but that would still be out of our clubs control.

  20. I'd answered before you edited it <ok>

I'd say exactly the same. We do not know! That is my point, we do not know what happened therefore this hole topic/discussion is based on assumptions and plain simple guessing work <ok>
