FFS. Iss it time to go back and watching a more realistic sport like WWE? please log in to view this image so what sport is the biggest con?
Don't see why VAR makes the sport less realistic. Its only used in the Premier league in the UK so it doesn't affect 99% of games being played in this country. What it does do is slow the game down and detract from the game-going fan experience. And btw looking at the picture I cant see any evidence that the Sheff Utd player is offside. The linesman is perfectly positioned to give the offside - I think they need to have a serious think about how they are using VAR. Oh and the biggest con sport is Greco-Roman wrestling - half the guys competing are not from either of those two places.
Pretty sure nobody still backs it apart from the FA/PL. We’ve opened Pandora’s box now though and she’s pissing all over us the big slag.
Yeah there's no going back now unfortunately, the Sky fans would never accept a minute offside going against them anymore so we're stuck With It. There's still some on our board who are big fans. We desperately need to be affected by some shockers. Hopefully we're relegated by a goal from a corner that wasn't.
His toe was about an inch or two offside, I watched some of the game. Problem is VAR is absolute, it doesn’t give benefit of the doubt to the attacking side, etc. You ask technology to answer a simple yes or no question and it provides an answer. Offside is one of those yes or no decisions. There’s nothing subjective about it, you’re either offside or you’re not. If we don’t like what we’re asking technology to do then we have to change it.
Yep. ****s paying a grand for a season ticket or £100+ on an away day being sacked off for Twitter ******s. It needs an absolute howler to win the game today.
the tech isn’t perfect though. They can’t get enough frames per second to even guarantee it to a centimetre or two. It’s something like a 16cm margin of error.
It also seems to rely on the video ref deciding where to place the line. It looks to me like he’s put the Sheff line ahead of his toe and the Spurs line on the knee.
When it's that close though it's not absolute as there's a margin of error involved. I see no reason why we can't just apply the clear and obvious mantra to offside decisions as well. I'd propose a one replay rule; if someone's clearly offside and gaining an advantage then you will only need one replay to see that. We don't need to be taking 3 minutes looking at various angles and freeze frames, and all the lines across the pitch ****e. If they're clearly offside you'll see it instantly on the first replay (Aubameyang at OT). If it's close enough that's it not obvious from the first replay then stick with the onfield decision, as it's highly unlikely any real advantage has been gained
Cricket manages an “umpire’s call” as they appreciate the tech isn’t 100%. No harm in going with either the lino’s initial call or just favouring the attacker when there are incidents within the margin of error. Having utter nonces like Mike Reilly in charge can’t be helping.
It’s absolute in that his toe was offside. As I’ve said, if we don’t like the answers the technology is giving to yes or no questions then we should change the parameters. At the moment it’s asked to provide a definite answer down to the n’th degree, which it does,
Eh? It hasn't provided a definite answer as the margin of error is larger than the amount he was judged to be offside.
I've always said that one of the big issues with VAR is as soon as a season defining decision goes against Liverpool/United then they will adapt it and use it more and more. Probably be related to some phase of play nonsense, where a foul was committed in a 'prior phase' leading to a goal and we'll have to check the 2 minutes leading up to every goal from then on.
