Offside rule change could cause chaos for new season Source:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...e-changed-FIFA--confusion-Premier-League.html
I think the offside law needs to go back to basics - anyone who is in offside position, regardless of whether or not they are interfering with play, should be flagged. It must be incredibly difficult for referees and assistant to watch a passage of play, see a player is offside but NOT interfering during the first phase but then scores in the second phase etc etc. Whilst the new law is more fair, it's just too difficult to officiate without video replays.
It took what 12-18months for skys commentators to get F'n over the fact that the linesman was only flagging offside when a player actually went for a ball or he actually controlled it. The rest of use were fine with it. I am fully sure that the refs and linesmen will do the same job they always did and everyone but whining utd managers <laugH> and the media who will bleat on and on about it. Most of these cases are totally clear cut. PLUS a player who is offside in one phas eof play is on side again very quickly so talking about it like a player is always offside is not going to work. The only thing a linesman need to is know when the ball is played and look acorss the line. its only "when the ball is played" If i pass out wide left to someone and the central striker was 10 yards offside it doesn't matter, its only when said left winger passes towards the central striker that he must be onside. Talking about guys standing in front of keepers or blocking the view IMO is going to far... luckily the ref is god so any decision make is THE DECISION and no amount of whing and moaning changes it.... I hope the media just take it in stride and the muppets who sit and talk get up to speed now and don't take 6 month apply the old rule to realise they sound stupid. simply put... lfc forwards always onside, utd forwards always offside
so if offside is now only when "challenging for the ball" not "interfering with play" does that mean an offside player can stand in front of the keeper deliberately and block his view?
If you take the time to learn the rules then no chaos will be evident, just another excuse for Jamie redknapp and co to dribble and cry over something when somebody scores. I can't be bothered with the politics any more, surely diving like a pussy and pulling faces like a dickhead should be resolved first.
no. thats pretty clear, you can stand where you like and not be ruled offside as long as you are not stopping someone form playing the ball or blocking the view.... in other words just being in line of sight aint enough you have to be trying to block thier path to the ball.... a guy could in theory just get into the keepers field of vision but not obstruct him i guess its pretty clear that the rule still works more or less the same way in my mind anyway.... you'll only see a flag if the guy goes for the ball and challenges for it... and you'll only see a flag if in limited circumstances its very cleat the guy was offisde and interfering just like now.
You are right, the only change here is that a single grey area has been cleared up - previously when a player made a challenge but without touching the ball it wasn't clear if he should be flagged, but now he is. The Milner goal wasn't offside last year and it still won't be offside this year.
Clarify the rule - IMO the rule should simply state that any player on his feet is interfering with the game. Any player on his arse doesn't interfere unless the ball hits him. Clear and simple... Clough had it right about this - if you're not seeking to gain an advantage, what are you doing on the pitch?
Howard Webb will simplify it all down to: if it's against United = more reasons to disallow it. If it's for United = more reasons to allow it.
