Once again match officials get it totally wrong. A foul 1yrd outside the box is punished by an official who would be better off having gone SPEC SAVERS than running the line. The sooner they fetch in video replays the better. Todays fiasco just further demonstrates that officials are not up to the job.<grr>

Another safc vs lfc game ruined by the ref. It's time for video technology with managers being given 2 opportunities to use it in the game. The reason we will not get it is the sky 5 will not get all the decisions like they do at the moment.

It makes up for the beachball incident last season. It was a nasty tackle to be fair, but probably wasn't a penalty.

Forget officials. Let's talk about how much Rainer had to do all afternoon. Because that's what lost us the game. Let's be frank, I'd swap Gyan AND Welbeck for Darren Bent back. Goals mean points, and fancy players as they may be, these two don't get enough of them.

The ref could have given Liverpool five penalties today - it wouldn't have made any difference at all.

    beachballl karma

what about their goal at anfield from our 'free kick'

but we have been utterly abysmal, 1 shot on target?

but it all could have been different, goals change games

We were playing very well until the pen was given. The psychology of the incident effected our players. We don't need Darren Bent back we need fair officials. Jamie Carrager even said after the game it was not pen and the decision effected the game.

Beach ball ref made a mistake, free kick at Liverpool, ref made a mistake, today ref made a mistake. It shows technology is needed because the refs cannot get the decisions right on their own.

Lets talk about the game, yes the match officials were rubbish, however what about henderson a central midfield player my arse, utter rubbish.
    Can't tackle,cant pass a ball forward,not creative,need i say more.
As far as the strikers go,we have no outlet, sorry to say but a carrol type player is needed,we have no physical prescence upfront.

Gyan had no support up front and try as he does, eventually he will get sick of it. Ref got it wrong but thats football. Technology is not the way forward-as has been seen in cricket.

Which was already in return for the McAllister penalty karma, given for a foul outside the box (yes, another one!) you stupid get.

However, aside from Mag know-nothings, we weren't threatening enough up front.

The thread is about the match officials which is why I was talking about them, I don't have a problem talking about the game but it might be worth starting a new topic with a appropriate title.

Injuries to Muntari and Richardson did not help.

Henderson played well in the 1st half, and the entire team went missing in the second.

I dont like using ref decisions as an excuse; but i would like to watch a (at least 1) sunderland game where the result isnt influenced by crap decisions and injuries before the end of the season.

Both teams were poor in the 2nd half, 0-0 would have been a more realistic score line (boring result for a boring game)

Beachball karma? load of crap. Beachball incident nobody seemed to know what decision the ref should have made. Todays penalty is a result of the linesman needing to wear glasses, as it should be clear that it was outside the box - the rule is clear and no confusion as to what the right decision should have been.

I must say that with all the recent controversy about Henderson I kept a special eye on him today. I didn't see him make any positive contribution at all. The "lad needs a break" excuses don't wash. He's just had a fortnight off. He continually back passed the ball and why they have him taking corners I will never know. I'm not knocking him for the sake of it, I just think that he's not cutting it any more

This game reinforces my stance on football. I wont go to another live game until video refs are brought in. They wont do it to protect the sky 4 (or 6) and gradually they will kill off the game.

I think Vegas has just made my point for me. We did play well before the penalty - and how much did Rainer have to do? The psychological effect the penalty had is hogwash - before the pen, our psychology was Sunderland nil, and after it, our psychology was Sunderland nil. Good officials, bad officials, good play, bad play - all too often the bottom line is Sunderland nil.

With 2 points out of the last 21, I'd give the earth for a couple of three yard tap-ins right now. Niall has already said we'll be replacing Bent this summer - it can't come soon enough.
