    Sporting Director, Les Reed:

“We are extremely pleased to have secured a new manager of Ronald Koeman’s calibre and status within the game.

“In appointing Ronald we have concluded our search for a manager who shares our values and vision for the future of Southampton Football Club.

“As part of our ongoing scouting process, we have been following the development of Ronald’s coaching career for some time and, through a more formal process this month, immediately identified him as our number-one choice.

“From the moment we met with Ronald, it was clear he had the vision and ambition to take our club forward, that he shared our football philosophy and could see the opportunity to move our club to the next level.

“The club, the players and the fans will all be excited to have a man of Ronald’s experience at the very highest level joining our club.

“Ronald’s passion for the opportunity here at St Mary’s was very clear, and we look forward to continuing our growth with him as part of our team.”

    Manager, Ronald Koeman:

“I am thrilled to be the manager of Southampton Football Club.

“From my very first meeting with Les Reed, I could see clearly that this was the right club for me. We share the same philosophy of football, and the same belief in how to develop the club.

“Southampton have a talented first-team squad, a world-class academy and the infrastructure to sustain success in the Premier League.

“The opportunity to continue the development of this famous football club was simply too good to turn down. I cannot wait to get started.”

    New Coaching Staff:

    Manager - Ronald Koeman
    Assistant - Erwin Koeman
First Team Coach - Jan Kluitenberg
    Goalkeeper Coach - TBA

Reed speaking well here. More honest about departures, even though we have just appointed a new manager. Not that the media care.

And, Simon Peach is out of the country, continuing his famed streak of leaving the UK just prior to any major Saints news.

Peach and McNulty joking about the Saints "meltdown" on Twitter, comforting to see others who believe talk of a meltdown is silly. :)

    Les Reed on Sky Sports:

"Ronald's got the right profile for us. He's used to introducing young player to top level football."

"He (Ronald) has been very successful in his career as a coach and a player."

"I think he will adapt very easily. He's studied the Premier League for a long time."

"It's about the qualities and the profile of the man, rather than whether he's coached in England or Holland."

"We will be adding a goalkeeping coach in due course."

"I don't think he will have to do much in terms of stabilising."

"We have over 75 people on the football staff. We've only lost two or three."

"There's very little to do in terms of stabilising. It's now about exciting people."

"If players do leave, and we raise significant funds, all of that will be re-invested into the squad."

So, are we assuming that with player sales of £20-£30m will this be added to c. £30m?

If so, are we going in for quality or quantity - or a bit of both...

What type of brand of football does he like his team to play.

Any one know of any other brother management teams - hope they don't have a row like "you never buy presents for my kids"

Now if, as is likely, one or all of Lallana/Shaw/Lovren go, can we not start ripping into him straight off? If they go, I'd suggest appointing Guardiola with Mourinho as his assistant likely wouldn't have kept them....

He said there's a strong possibility that Adam will be excited by what we do and want to stay a part of it.

Looked at a Sky Sports article and underneath were comments. First one was by a Pompey fan called Steve, who talked about Saints forever being in Pompey's shadow. His comments were roundly set upon by Saints fans and Neutrals alike.

One neutral reminded the guy that Saints were in the PL and Pompey were in L2. A curious shadow.

Let's hope that the appointment settles down the squad and dampens down the transfer speculation.
