    Liverpool v Middlesbrough
    23 Sep 2014, KO: 19:45

    --------------------------------------------

Liverpool kick off their Capital One Cup campaign with a third-round tie against Middlesbrough at Anfield.

The teams have not met since February 2009 when the Reds went down to a 2-0 Premier League defeat at the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesbrough's last visit to Anfield came earlier in that 2008-09 season when late goals from Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard secured a 2-1 win for Liverpool.

The last time the sides went head to head in the League Cup was November 2004. Two late goals from Neil Mellor sealed a 2-0 win for Liverpool at Anfield.

    ----------------------------------------------

Last time we met these guys was in the league in 2009. They were one of only 2 teams to beat us in the league that season, and I believe the only team to beat us at Anfield. Just take out our frustration on them and hammr them 6-0.

Its a shame Can is injured. This was the perfect game for him to start in and show what he can do.

Virtually every one should be rested. Though we have 2 injured rb's.

Have to admit, I have no interest in lc this season after the start we have made. BR needs to spend time sorting the defence and sack thiscup off asap.

Well we've sent every center back we want to become good on loan which leaves a Kolo Toure and someone else. Personally I would have Sakho and Lovren or whoever Rodgers wants as our partnership and actually form one!!

well Gerrard is no doubt going to be rested for this game so he's "fresh" for the weekend.

Means we'll probably see a midfield of Hendo Lucas and one other. Is Allen fit? If not, maybe Coutinho in the midfield 3 with Sterling ahead of him? Or would you rest Stelring in this game (he should have played v Villa and missed this one imo).

    I'd prob go something like

    Mig
    Manquillo Skrtel Sakho Enrique
    Lucas
Hendo Allen (or Cout if Allen not fit)
    Markovic Lambert Borini

Just as much chance of winning this as the FA Cups. You end up playing the same teams anyway and the Champ clubs tend to rest players anyway and the big teams always make it to the semi's in both comps normally as well.

People say League cup is easier to win but in the last 7 or 8 years it's nearly always been won by a top 4 team.

Rodgers confirms that Lambert will start.

No Studge, Can, Allen or Johnson.

    Henderson and Coutinho have knocks.

true.... you should in theory come up against city or chelsea who do really care it seems then others....... i think in general with any sort of luck we get to this at qf or sf.

fa cup is difficult.... you just never know in it do you.
