Hello and welcome to the official match thread for Wednesday's Carling Cup third round game between Brighton And Hove Albion and Liverpool. Preview. I'll start with the home team. Brighton have made an excellent start to the season. They sit 3rd in the Championship table with 5 wins, 1 draw and a defeat. The defeat came in Brighton's last game against Leicester City. They have also beaten Premier League side Sunderland in the last round of the Carling Cup. Brighton haven't lost a competitive game at the Amex so a tough ask for Liverpool. And onto the away team. Liverpool have made a solid start to the season. We currently sit 8th in the league with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. Back-to-back defeats against Stoke City and Tottenham Hotpsur mean that Liverpool don't go into the game in good form. However, Kenny Dalglish is expected to put out a strong side so we should be in for a good game. To conclude my preview, I think this phrase sums up tomorrow's game... Team News. Brighton assistant boss Mauricio Taricco is set to replace left-back Marcos Painter who is suspended. Will Hoskins has recovered from a hip injury and could be joined in the squad by new midfielder Vicente. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard could make his long-awaited return after six months out with a groin injury. Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel serve one-match bans, while Sebastian Coates could make his first start for the club in place of the injured Daniel Agger. I think this should be one of the stand out games and while people are looking for Leeds to give Man U a game, I expect this game to be closer and more likely to lead to a cupset.
I also think it will be a good game. Brighton are a very good side and play some excellent football. If we aren't playing well tomorrow night, we could be on the end of a bad result. But we'll play well and win 3-1!
I like Brighton, I hope they do really well this season and wish them all the best. It will be a tough game.
Under Poyet Brighton are like Uruguay, well drilled and organised with a bit of attacking flair and pace. I think this is a competition that Liverpool have a chance of winning (with a little luck and champions league teams having other priorities) but will need to be careful not to slip up tomorrow. Good luck both teams, and may the best team win!
Will be a tough game, hopefully there game at home to Leeds on Friday pm will divert there attention a bit Opportunity for the likes of Maxi,Spearo,Coates,Bellamy,Kuyt all to start
Not an easy game but still a game we should win. Hopefully we will see Maxi playing again, his movement and intelligence can cause problems and it's a shame he hasn't played more often. It's a good opportunity for Coates to start as well especially with Agger out now and Carra looking rather suspect at times. I hope he can really hit the ground running but I can understand it may take him to adjust. As much as I'm annoyed with Carroll so far, he needs games and he needs confidence and I think we can afford to let him start in this game. Hopefully he can make more of an impact and get more involved in the game. Would be nice to see Shelvey getting some game time as well as I feel he is a more natural successor to Gerrard than Henderson.
I suspect will be somethin like this Reina Flanno Coates Wilson Enrique Maxi Stevie Spearin Bellamy Carroll Kuyt
I hope Doni plays in goal. We haven't played him yet so even just to keep his morale up he should get a start, after all he is a quality keeper.
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/poyet-we-need-to-be-perfect Poyet: We need to be perfect The Seagulls take on Kenny Dalglish's side at the Amex Stadium with a place in the fourth round of the Carling Cup at stake - and their Uruguayan boss knows the size of the task facing his men. "When the draw happened it was like a celebration here, like we'd won the league again," said Poyet. "I'm not going to change that because they have a great chance to play against a top-class team. "There is no better feeling for a player who was playing in League One three months ago to play in front of 22,000 people against Liverpool. I'm not going to try to bring down those emotions. "A team in the situation Liverpool are in, this is a cup which can be very important. It can be a trophy in the cabinet so they will take it very seriously. "Saying that, they have injuries and suspensions so it will be a different team. But I know any player who comes in, like Dirk Kuyt or Craig Bellamy, will be top class so it's going to be difficult. "On top of that if they react (to Sunday's defeat), play well and have the right attitude then we are going to suffer. "We need to be at the top of our game and be a bit lucky, and maybe if Liverpool aren't then we've got a chance. If both teams play at the same level Liverpool should win because they are quicker, stronger and better technically. "We have to make sure we are better than them on the day and take our chances. You need practically the perfect game to beat them - but we are going to try."
I'm hoping for a huge win today to bring some confidence back. I'm hoping some of the youngsters will put in some good performances; and Bellamy, Gerrard, Maxi etc... get some game time to keep them fit and ready in case they're needed.
Anyone got any links ready to stream the game tonight? My last ones have all lagged like mad from half time onwards :/
