please log in to view this image Heidar Helguson has joined Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee. The 34 year-old front-man - who scored nine goals in the top-flight for the R's last term - has penned a one-year deal with the Championship side. Helguson leaves Loftus Road having made a fine impact since his move from Bolton Wanderers, initially on loan, in November 2008. He scored 28 goals in 80 appearances in all competitions for the R's, as well as spending time on loan at Watford, then managed by current Cardiff boss Malky Mackay. Helguson will always be rememebred fondly by the QPR fans, not least for his winning penalty against Chelsea at Loftus Road last season. The Club would like to thank Heidar for his contribution during his time here and wish him every success for the future. http://www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2867671,00.html? Good luck to him, been invaluable for us the last two seasons. But have to say he looked better in hoops than in Cardiff red
good luck to him shame he got injured last season when he was in such good form I hope he plays crap for Cardiff though
Heidar took a lot of stick during his first stint with the Rs, but came back from a loan spell at Watford (wasn't it?) a much more committed player, won the fans over and was great last season whilst he stayed fit. Good luck to him, but probably the right time to see him go. Will always remember that great header at Selhurst Park.
Its a mistake to let him go, he would have been perfect as a backup to BZ. We now need another target man and it will be difficult to find one who wins as many balls as HH.
Poor decision imo. Helguson has an amazing ability to win so many headers. We wont find someone who can do that like him. Imo before we let HH go we needed a striker, now we definatley need at least one more. Gutted to see him go - and I never thought I would say that!
Shame to see him go but he deserves better than getting the odd 20 minutes for us. Superb attitude and more ability than people perhaps gave him credit for. The saddest thing is it pushes Bothroyd up the pecking order.
Cardiff are after Smith and Bothroyd too and Id be happy if they left. Not that i dislike Smith but think hes not good enough for us now.
Iceman was always one of my favourite and it is sad to see him go. We could have use him as a supersub and as a backup striker, but i understand he wants to play regurlary. One of the best headers in prem.
First truly poor decision by Hughes IMO. HH gives many tactical options that cannot be delivered by anyone else on the squad.
Not sure that it is a poor decision as we do not know who MH has got lined up, I am assuming? But I am not sure I agree with this yet, we should all be grateful for HH being a big part of our promotion and and equally big part in our survival in the prem. Thankyou Heider
As sad as I am about Heidar's departure, he hasn't featured since January 17th due to injury. He will be 35 later this month. Players come and go, that is football. Onwards and upwards, cheers Heidar all the best mate. You were both of my daughters favourite player.
I was one of those that criticised HH before he went on loan to Watford but he came back a changed man and was hugely important in our promoton season and at the start of our Premier League campaign. He has a tremendous leap and wins so many headers that he has no right to win. At 34, he may not have got much game time in 2012/13 but I agree with Flyer that we have no-one else in the squad to deputise for BZ, to play in that classic front man role. I think we may miss him but I wish him well for the future and thank him for all his hard work and a very good return: 28 goals in 80 appearances!
