:official: Adeyemi signs for cardiff

Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Tom Adeyemi. The highly-rated central midfielder links up with the Bluebirds from Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.



Twenty-two year old Tom completed his medical, prior to putting pen to paper on a three-year deal at Cardiff City Stadium. He will train with the Bluebirds on Thursday morning, ahead of travelling with Ole Gunnar Solskjær and his new teammates to Blackburn for Friday evening’s opening 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship fixture.



Born in Norwich, Tom began his professional career with Norwich City in 2008 as a 17 year old, prior to experiencing loan spells at Bradford City, Oldham Athletic and Brentford in subsequent seasons. He signed a permanent deal with Birmingham ahead of the 2013/14 season, making 40 appearances for a Blues side that for a short spell featured fellow new Bluebird, Federico Macheda.



Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player after completing his move, Tom said: “From the outside looking in, Cardiff City has a very strong squad that will challenge for a quick return to the Premier League this season.



“I took no persuading from the Manager to come here. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to work with somebody like him and to play for a club like Cardiff City. I’m very pleased that everything has been completed ahead of the season and now I can focus on fighting for a place in the side and helping us get the season off to a great start.”



Equally thrilled was Ole Gunnar Solskjær, when speaking to Cardiff City Player ahead of his Thursday morning Media Conference. He said: “I’ve been keeping an eye on Tom’s progress for a very long time. A few years ago, my Manchester United reserve side played against Norwich’s first team and Tom was their standout player. He scored a great goal that day and stood out as a fine talent, even at that young age.



“Tom has a physical presence, drive and energy – up and down the pitch. He can dictate games and is great at winning and anticipating second balls. We’ve been interested all summer and I’m thrilled we’ve got our man ahead of the season kick-off.



“You need consistent performers in this league and Tom is one of those players who will fit in with Whitts, Gunnar and KG in that central midfield area. Those are guys that you can trust every single week to perform – they are all Premier League quality. We are looking to the future and we want Tom and the others playing for us in the top flight next year.



“What’s more, Tom is an intelligent young man with a great personality – the kind of character we want around the training ground. He plays with a smile on his face and we’re very much looking forward to seeing him perform for Cardiff City.”

Good news.

Always a worry until City confirm deal done.

I have a contact who is a Bluenose fan. His views on Adeyemi v. Mutch: -

"Won't be a direct replacement for Mutch as they play in different roles. Adeyemi is a physical box to boxer rather than someone with Mutch’s skills and ability to score.

Adeyemi will add more bite than Mutch."

Perhaps we will play 2 holding mid fielders with Adeyemi and Dikgacoi with one or the other also having licence to get forward when possible as Dikgacoi did at Palace with Jedinak?

 

I don't anything about him other than what I've read in the last few days.

Seems very highly regarded at Brum, seems to have a good attitude and it would appear he was our first choice to replace Mutch.

Therefore I'm happy we've got him and look forward to seeing him play.

 

No room for Gunnarrsson on the pitch then with him & Dikgacoi?

Just what is our best midfield? So many option.

Whittingham, Eikrem, Daehli, Gunnarrsson, Dikgacoi, Adeyemi, Kim, Noone, Ralls........

Same as up front with ALF, Jones, Maynard, Mason, Macheda, Guerra........

Pity the same can't be said for centre back

 

If Adeyemi's style of play and strengths are as you describe BfB then this is another vital piece in the jigsaw.

I really think he will go with Dikgacoi and Adeyemi.

He then has options for a 5 man midfield with Whitts, Daehli and Noone included (once Noone fit) - I know that leaves a lone soldier up front.

Or a 4-3-3 with Whitts added to the above 2 and a second striker or Daehli and Noone pushed right up. Plenty of room for flexibility. Just not at cb for now.

 

It seems we now have the protection for the back four. Just need to know who the back four will be.

 

Norwich fan in peace, always thought Adeyemi would make the grade when coming through the youth system. He's not just a box to box physical midfielder, he's really good on the ball.

I was a few years above him at Norwich School and the lads a fully fledged genius. Could have done anything.

Cheers mate! Good to hear, I am really looking forward to see him play. We been desperately lacking a quality box to box midfielder.

 

I agree, think Adeyemi will have licence to go forward, and Dikgacoi will sit in front of the back 4.

 

will we see them together in the same team? With the riches we have in midfield it will be interesting. Whitts pulling the strings in midfield with one of the two mentioned. Who plays around them? Dahlei, Burgsrellar, Noone, Eikrem?

 

In some matches he might go with two defensive midfielders i would think? Depending on formation? Noone and Daehli are probably first choice out wide, as noone is injured i suspect Burgtsaller will play on the right or perhaps Kim? Eikrem is a very similar type of footballer to whitts i suspect he will be back up for whitts, i guess whitts will start in the middle?

 

Certainly will be. Good away day. Apart from the last one, when some prat decided to pull the emergency stop handle on the train we were taking out of Cardiff and we were stuck for hours.

Always remember our 0-1 victory at Ninian Park when Ched Evans belted one in from distance for a smash and grab victory. If you'd have asked me then I'd have said he was on his way to the top. Funny how things work out.

Yes, I remember that game, Evans was good but Dion Dublin gave a master class in how a centre forward should play. Our cb's didn't know what to do with him and that gave Evans the space to shine.

I see Evans is trying to appeal his verdict. Time will tell.

It's not so much Rhodes that concerns us but our ex-player Rudy Gestede. Never really did it for us but has done well at Blackburn and can be a handful in the air. With our centre back problem he could cause us real trouble if he gets good service.

Interesting home game for you v. Wolves on Sunday. They will be well up to justify their promotion and you will be keen to re-establish your Prem credentials. Lafferty and Grabban plus Hooper could give you just what you missed last season. You'll miss Snodgrass though.
