Squads had to be submitted to the Premier League by 4 p.m. this afternoon, and were due to be published on the PL web site some time around now. No sign at the moment, and nothing from NCFC on twitter. Anybody seen our list?
1. John Ruddy 2. Russell Martin 3. Steven Whittaker 4. Bradley Johnson 5. Sebastien Bassong 6. Michael Turner 7. Robert Snodgrass 8. Jonathan Howson 9. Grant Holt 10. Simeon Jackson 11. Andrew Surman 12. Anthony Pilkington 14. Wesley Hoolahan 15. David Fox 16. Steve Morison 17. Elliott Bennett 18. Javier Garrido 20. Leon Barnett 21. Jacob Butterfield 22. Elliott Ward 23. Marc Tierney 24. Ryan Bennett 25. Chris Martin 26. Simon Lappin 27. Alexander Tettey Under-21: 13. Declan Rudd 31. Jed Steer --. Harry Kane
Either that list is wrong, or Bunn has been told he needs to wait until January before he has a chance to play in the league.
.........good question and good spot. forgot all about him, and hope that state remains for the entire season, meaning ruddy is available for every match.
This list is taken from the NCFC squad listed on the PL web site. The detailed profiles for each player include whether he is a member of the 25-man squad. However the list has at least one mistake, since Jed Steer is said to be in the squad but not Under-21 (so I moved him to appear with Rudd and Kane)! I checked to see if Chris Martin was in the 25-man squad, and it says he is. Bit of a mystery about Bunn then.
I can only think - if it isn't a mistake - that we thought we were going to lose one of the fringe players during the transfer window and thus opening up a space. As we didn't, Hughton thought he would be better placed to name the outfield players on the list and use Steer/Rudd as back-up. Bunn will of course still be able to play in the cup competitions. I'm still confident that this is an oversight by either us or the Premier League.
The most likely explanation is that the PL web site is at fault. Bunn doesn't appear in the alphabetical list of current players either, although Kane is already listed for example. Still raises the question of who has been left out if Bunn is actually in the official 25. This hiatus is why I started the thread in the first place. I did a quick count this morning and realised we still had 26 not under-21 players.
Another possibility is that you have leeway if you have one or more injured players? There must be a reason; I would expect the squad to be announced on the official twitter site if it had been finalised.
Don't think there is any leeway when it comes to outfield players. I'm certain they only give leeway in exceptional circumstances when it comes to 'keepers, and I'm pretty sure the FA would not give any leeway to us if we have a goalkeeping crisis, as we didn't name Bunn in the initial squad.
What I mean is that maybe you don't have to submit your final list of 25 by the official deadline (today at 4 p.m.) if one or more of the players you intend to include is unfit. But that wouldn't explain why the players on the list are all said to be in the squad.
