Background: I took a stupid amount of a pay cut to work in Blighty from Brussels when the **** hit the fan. I ended up travelling 7+ hours a day to do the job on top of normal hours. I travelled Europe to garner clients and break this company into Europe and when I joined they were only making enough to stave off the financial wolves.

Today, the final monthly figures came in and the company had record profits for the 9th month running. End of year profits estimated at about £6.9 million

    • I'm sick of the role.
    • Bored in the UK.
    • Offers abroad for better cash

Two issues: A wife working in the UK and happy as well as a 5 year old daughter finally mastering English after having Flemish and French as languages.

I want my wife to have a career she enjoys. I want my daughter to be in the UK education system and shes in a really, really good school.

All I can think is to leave to work abroad on potentially fragile contracts and end up with nowt if the economies go bad.

There are enough senior chaps here to give advice.

Im torn as the wife and daughter will stay in the UK.

    What's best?

    You know meAB.

Looking at Europe, Far East and Middle East.

Way things are going; perhaps sticking with what I have is the best option?

I think you probably already know the answer OT, but are just having the doubts all people have.

All i'd say is family always comes first and no amount of money can make up for being away from them.

Finish off that bottle you've got opened and get to bed for a good nights kip and then get up in the morning and give miniOT a big swing around the room and tell her she's going to school in England. <ok>

True Donkey Toon. It is double wages to London though. I could afford that house deposit in 9 months. My sister was in tears when I told her the other day as it's likely to be in a bad place but danger money is tempting.

    AB.

MiniOT is back tomorrow from her grans after 2 weeks away. Can't wait to swing her around.

Get as much sleep as you can then, you're going to need it after she's been away for two weeks.

Double salary is a real temptation OT, I can see the dilemma. I guess right know you are caught between wanting to take a golden opportunity to provide that bit extra for your family and missing out on your family, five years olds do alot of developing in 9 months and you understandibly don't want to miss it.

Really tough call. Maybe the best shout is to discuss it with your wife, explain why you are torn and decide together? Between you i'm sure you will come to the decision that feels right for you all.

    We discussed it.

She wants the house and future security.

She knows the dangers of the role and the economic climate. I want the house as well as I'm sick of throwing money away on rent when I look at what I pay could be towards a mortgage.

I have said I will not go to Yemen as I have to draw that line somewhere.

I dont know the specifics of your job, but I know that there is probably going to be a financial meltdown soon in europe and america, due to the latest news, mixed with the issues with the euro it could be way worse then last time..but you probably already know that

If you have a cushty job now and live with your family, id stick with that for a year or 2 atleast until this dies down (if it ever does!)

I think this is good advice. I work as a risk analyst for a bank and there are alarms going off all over the place! The signs for the ecomomy are certainly not good.

As for Yemen definitely not! Are there safer options with same pay?
