One of the things that is missing from our board in comparison to some other sites is sub forums.

Obviously football topics regarding solely the Gills can sometimes dry up unless you regurgitate old stuff.

So I was wondering to what member's thoughts were on an off topic 'sticky' thread?

Some other boards are already using these type of threads.

Usual board rules will still apply, probably slightly more stricter. You would be able to discuss topics other than football within the one on going thread. However, this is not a virtual pub thread, in the same way as the 'blues rock cafe'. Solely for people who want to discuss more general real life events, politics as an example etc.

Please vote for or against the idea in the poll above. Only Gills member votes will be counted.

    thanks

I think it is a good idea be better for the board to have one like that where you can talk about anything instead of starting up a whole thread.

I thought we had General Chat for that. I haven't got a problem if you want to set it up - We've already had the occasional off topic thread, but I suspect that anything 'permanent' might be underused - you could have a trial period and review its' usefulness in a couple of months.

Totally agree with you alwaysright, hence my wording about 'usual board rules will still apply, probably slightly stricter', so it will not be a GC Style thread as that option is already available within the site.

If you look around a lot of other sites, something that generates a lot of interest is this style of thread.

Maybe if I gave some ideas/guidelines to the rules it might help put it in better perspective:
    1. No swearing, racism or abuse of any nature.
    2. No porn.
    3. It is not a virtual pub and anything of that nature will be moved to blues rock cafe or simply deleted.
    4. The aim for debates of world topics and events that affect our every day life are allowed.
    5. No libel.

I have thought of maybe a 6th one, which I would be interested in views on, no picture uploads or emoticons, typed debate only. Hence avoiding the virtual pub style layout.

Once guidelines have been agreed, they will form the opening introduction of the trial period sticky thread.

Why do we want this you may ask. I tend to find when I want to debate stuff of this nature I have to go to other sites. Which seems a bit crazy when this is generally my main site. Obviously myself and Gemini will be able to oversee anything that is not within the rules, guided also by members. Really it is just to fill the gap of non football days.

Either way would appreciate your vote alwaysright.

    Other input welcome...
