Some of you may have read the article already, but BBC Sport claimed Chelsea were giving a medical to a young Belgian Keeper, (Thibaut Courtois) also claiming he was from Belgian Champions Genk (twice, in the picture caption and in the main body of the text.) Anderlecht actually won the league, on the last day by a point. I follow the Belgian league, and would like to use this as an example of how thrilling it can be. I would complain to the BBC, but I can't seem to find a email address. If someone has one, please let me know. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14173776.stm)
He won the Belgian League 'Goalkeeper of the Year' award, and has shown himself to be a very good shot stopper. I do doubt his 'acrobatic' ability though, as he often mistimed his dives through the air massively. This can probably be ironed out though mind.
Cool. I have to say for a 19 year old to win goalkeeper of the year in the Belgian league is impressive. The Belgians sure do have some outstanding youngsters.
I wrote an article about just that, come to think of it (here's an extract) : There is a widely held belief that all national teams have a natural cycle on and off the pitch. The Spanish national team are currently going through a purple patch in their not so illustrious history at World Cups and European Championships. Indeed, many people may wonder: is there a nation that can compete with ‘La Roja’? Well, there may well be in the not too distant future, and it may not be one the usual suspects. That nation may well be…….Belgium. The future of Belgium is looking very good, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku are the poster boys for ‘the new Belgium’ alongside Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen, Standared Liege star and long term Manchester United target Steven Defour and Benfica’s new signing Axel Witsel, but all great teams have to have a great goalkeeper, right? Step up Thibaut Courtois…
http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/ May as well keep the complaint here though, as more people are likely to read it.
Not to mention the announcement that Dawson was playing against Wigan. Shocked a few of us - especially Dawson himself I would imagine.
