Bad luck to all who come back from Spanish holidays.
Be grateful you went and do the right thing and quarantine.
The government has taken the action and quickly. Well done.
The Labour response of 'shambolic' is pathetic and fully expected.

Bit harsh on those in the Balearics. There’s only one person in hospital with corona in Ibiza right now

Off to St Austell myself soon :emoticon-0148-yes:. Went to Lynton and Lynmouth not too long ago too. At the very least this is helping some of us to explore the more beautiful parts of our own country

Interesting that the country with the most recorded deaths from COVID in Europe, with a hotspot in Leicester has imposed quarantine on travellers coming from a country with fewer deaths and a hotspot in Barcelona. Not saying it’s wrong - just interesting.

Just back from Spain yesterday. Went out on the 8th and back 26th so maxed the opportunity. I was tempted to stay, it is just as safe there as it in the UK in most parts of Spain. Masks to be worn anywhere in public even if there is no one nearby. I work from home so no hardship to self isolate. Just really pleased I grabbed a couple of weeks when I could

Grabbed a break in Norfolk for a week from 11th July, good weather, we all needed it, wife, daughter and two grandkids. Now looking forward to next year. Maybe a short break in UK at half term ish. Hopefully our planned holiday in Menorca next year.

I'm supposed to be flying to Malaga on Sunday. Paid for my accommodation on Saturday - literally hours before the announcement.
Flights were booked way before the Covid crisis.
I don't care about quarantine as I work from home, so that will not be an issue. I DO care about our flight home being cancelled though.
    What a bummer.

Someone I spoke to in the aviation industry said they wont cancel the flights because that way they won't need to credit the cost. No guarantees though. Problem is no insurance with current govt guidelines. I hope you manage to get away. It definitely felt safer in Spain than here

We’ve done really well during lockdown working from home etc. But now the house has gone onto the market and it’s all gone out the window.
Someone came today and the wife was trying so hard to sell the house she was making drinks for them and virtually trapping them in the house.
She’s out looking at her new house every day annoying the builders measuring every room. Without a care in the world of the virus.
But we was due to go to Santorini in August which is now cancelled (that’s the third holiday cancelled this year) and read up on Dubai where we are due to go in December and says she’s worried and hopes that cancels as well. But anyone can come into our house if they want as long as they are interested in buying it.

    Now what about this:
What better way to kickstart the domestic hospitality sector, then to force British people thinking of taking their money abroad, to stay here and spend at home.
    Blame Coronavirus and job done.
All those holidaymakers spending their money here - very clever indeed. All that income that Spain would have seen, earned here instead.
Not a bad thing I suppose - whether deliberately intended or not it would be good for our badly damaged hospitality sector.
Perhaps I’m too cynical - I just don’t trust politicians - whichever side of the house they hail from.

After earlier mistakes and being too slow to react to the unfolding pandemic, we now seem to be up to speed and a bit more 'with it' than we were to start with.

I guess this move will have a positive impact on our own tourism and hospitality but with the crappy weather here over the past few weeks it's understandable that people want some proper sunshine abroad.
I hope all this is sorted before my rescheduled holiday which includes Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands next April.

I just can't see it working like that though. It might have an effect but it will be negligible in the grand scheme of things. There's no way the people who'd be splashing £3k in Ibiza will be spending that sort of money here, maybe the odd weekend break of course but for the most part it'll just go into next year's fund I'd imagine.

    Fair point Rob.
I'm hurting because I don't want to go against government advice but it will hurt to simply write off all the money I've spent on flights and accommodation. Right now I'm tending towards going anyway and self-isolating upon return - but its definitely not an easy decision - I'm eating myself up over it.

Yeah I don't blame you mate. If you can still go I would, just make sure you socially distance properly and make sure you can work from home or whatever you need to do afterwards. I could be wrong, but isn't their rate still lower than ours anyway? So statistically you're less safe staying here! Or maybe that's just the Balearics/Canaries, I'm not sure.

Their rate IS lower, but rising fast.
It’s mainly rising around Barcelona. I’m going to the other end of their Mediterranean coast.

It’s rising in Spain because they are counting asymptomatic cases as well. We don’t so theoretically their rates are lower than ours.

BCRW ..IF YOU CAN SELF ISOLATE and work from home the only risk you have is catching it! whether mild or bad. bearing in mind your illness of last year how would that fair?
last year pre AUGUST 3 of our group of 7 were hospitalised ...1 was on deaths door for 8 weeks! we now meet up on a Thursday night for a walk as a group about 2 hours+ but maintain singular efforts to stay in our own bubbles at home... family excepted.
because of wifes head problem cant fly … but I would have gone to Adriatic area … other scenario is camper van it France or UK . been to almost every coastal town [ bigger than Portishead and hundreds the size of Lamorna cove ] on the mainland uk. BEEN TO NEARLY ALL NATIONAL PARKS... couple areas of SCOTLAND cant remember having been to [not exactly NP's more AONB's
just go take a lap top and work from Spain!

It'll be interesting to hear the scientific announcements this afternoon about a possible second wave coming through Europe in the next few weeks.
To all holidaymakers either there now or contemplating a break please remember how deadly and devastating this virus is.
It's tough having holiday plans disrupted but bears no comparison to having thousands dying each week as we experienced in the Spring.
The precautions the government are taking are for the benefit of all in this country not just those who want to go holiday.

I see our own instances have rocketed recently - especially around Leicester, Blackburn and Oldham.
Perhaps we should ALL quarantine for 2 weeks - whether we have been abroad or not? (Not being pedantic btw)
