Absolutely Stunning !!! One of the best all-time Premier League goals (Almost beats Di Canio's finest).
Last summer we were linked with three players: Pog, Ruiz and Cisse. At the time I said flat out that Cisse was the man for us to sign - from a mile away a blind man could that his pace, power and technique would ensure he'd be a sure-fire success for us. But Jol went for Ruiz instead. Now it's possible that Fulham made an offer for Cisse and were turned down, leaving us with Ruiz as the next best option. But what a disappointment Ruiz has turned out to be in comparison with Cisse. The only question is whether Newcastle can keep him ... my concern last summer was that he'd shown little loyalty to the teams that brought him out of Africa and nurtured his talent; he's shown a history of moving on to the next bigger team that came calling. I suspect Cisse will be at the top of the wish list for teams like ManU and Chelsea, who need strikers. I haven't given up on Ruiz, by the way; I'm just saying it was obvious before we'd signed anyone that Cisse was a can't-miss proposition.
I think Newcastle could well have a busy summer on their hands. There will be plenty of bids for the likes of Cisse, Ba, Tiote and Cabaye. If they don't get the 4th CL place I can see at least one of them going, perhaps Ba, who seems to have really gone off the boil of late.
Not sure how much interest there'll be in Cisse this summer, I don't think the bigger clubs will be putting bids of silly money (which is what he'll cost) in on the basis of half a season, fantastic as he's been.
Hey - just you wait Captain. He's back and raring to go : http://www.soundersfc.com/news/articles/2012/04-april/eddie-johnson-scores.aspx
'His instants of brilliance had the Sounders faithful pining for more – which is just how Johnson likes it.' I remember that feeling watching his dazzling skills from the Hammersmith End!
For all that I mock him, I wish him nothing but good things. I hope his return to the States works out well for him.
Had another look at Cisse's goal because I couldn't get out of my mind one by Geoff Horsefield. Nor could I for the life of me remember who it was against so had a trawl through some archives. Didn't have any luck but did find this gem - even if it's only for the cameo performance by two well known punters (sorry, pundits) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IwunJRiBNA&feature=BFa&list=UUCVSz4iTZAog952nMDlSgyQ&lf=plcp
And Wayne Rooney's overhead has been voted goal of the last two decades - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2139088/Wayne-Rooney-goal-Man-City-wins-Premier-League-goal-20-seasons.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
