West Ham United (h) protest announcement: #OccupySJP
    19/05/2015

After another embarrassing performance against already relegated Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, we go into the final game of the season with relegation a very realistic prospect.

John Carver and the players deserve to carry part of the blame, but this most recent impending disaster has been years in the making. Mike Ashley has made countless decisions with complete disregard for the club’s or the fans’ interests. Decisions that have resulted in a weak, unbalanced, spiritless squad and a manager woefully out of his depth. The club now finds itself in another late season struggle, the third in its last six Premier League campaigns. A fight for Premier League survival which could, and should, have been easily avoided had past lessons been adequately learned.

Mike Ashley however hasn’t learned any lessons in his time owning the club. He is not interested in learning. He is not interested in our club, not in the same way you and I are. For eight years now he has ruthlessly exploited our passion for our club for his own personal benefit.

Many fans will continue their boycott, and avoid the West Ham United game. This is something we encourage and support as it will hit Mike Ashley where it hurts him the most. However due to the nature of the fixture on Sunday, and what is at stake for the club, we understand that many fans will find it very difficult to stay away. For those among us choosing to give up their season tickets, this will be our last game at St. James’ Park until Mike Ashley leaves. We therefore aim to make the most of this final opportunity to deliver our message inside the stadium in the strongest possible terms.

    #OccupySJP

Whatever the result of the game and the outcome of the “battle” against relegation, during and following any lap of ‘honour’ that might or might not take place, we will continue to occupy the ground after the final whistle and we urge all Newcastle United supporters to join us in this form of protest, which has been cleared with Northumbria Police. Bring your flags, bring your banners and most importantly bring your voices. Together we will make it clear that enough is enough and demand – on the worldwide platform that is Sky Sports – that the man ultimately responsible for the club’s demise into mediocrity, Mike Ashley himself, puts the club up for sale with immediate effect to “a worthy custodian of such a fine football club”, which is how he said he judged potential takeover parties when he first took the club off the market in 2008.

We have no specific protests planned to take place during the game so as not to disrupt the outcome in any way, shape or form. However once again we encourage all fans to show their displeasure in any way they see fit. You need no permission or direction to protest, this is your club.

The only way anyone can hit Ashley where it hurts most is by a swift kick in the bollocks.
Personally, I find the suggestion that he can be affected financially bizarre.

So, if anyone can explain how a man worth £3.5bn or thereabouts will be bothered in the slightest by fans staying away, please go ahead and enlighten me.
This time next year, his Net worth will probably be £4bn+.

I'll stay behind after the game, no problem with that.
But it does seem a bit odd, after the call for boycotts, leaving early etc that the latest idea is to occupy SJP for a short while, when no doubt the players will be trooping around the pitch, some of the better ones for a last time.
Given the clubs stance on banners inside the ground, I can see the Sports Direct Police Force in confiscation mode before the game.

I have no problem with that suggestion to be honest. A good thing to do. Realistically the best thing would have been a completely empty stadium a few weeks running. However the fans being as they are, are sickened by the thought of relegation whereas Ashley is quite blase about it every January.

I think we will go down. Perhaps if we do we'll get to see how a massive drop off in fans affects his thinking. If we do manage to stay up, for me groundhog day will begin. He will do just enough in the transfer market to think we'll be ok (some even suggesting top half), which will be accepted as progress after having battled relegation. Some will see through it and realise its the same old three card trick. The majority won't and we'll be back to 45k plus crowds. Then in January there will be the usual business, and an alarming drop off before a flirt with relegation with promises to learn from the mistakes. Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat.

I wish they would stop saying not turning up for games hits Mike Ashley where it hurst.

Not buying tickets or renewing season tickets doesn't directly hit Mike Ashley were it hurts. It just reduces the clubs profits. As Mike Ashley isn't taking a dividend based on the profits it doesn't effect his income or wealth in anyway. You could argue that reduced profits for the club would reduce any money Mike would get if he sold Newcastle United but is he more or less likely to sell if the value of the club goes down. In the short term all it's going to do reduce the amount of money the club could spend on players if they did choose to spend the money in the bank on players.

Exactly right. The point at which Ashley sells NUFC is probably twofold; first, is the club 'costing' more than its delivering (as in, has our advertising vehicle been realised), and second can he at least get his money back or make whatever he expected to make on it.

NUFC is slightly odd - we don't own the ground (or the land it's on anyway), so there's little tangible assets. And we're stripped down in terms of staff (everywhere) so the current assets also don't have great appeal. Mike's model has never really been about making businesses into something better to be sold; he usually just buys cheap and sells for slightly less cheap, or retains where the wider play has appeal. NUFC has been a global advertising vehicle with arguably the most captive fan base in the country. So he could in essence fck around doing what he wanted knowing the outside would look like a competent football club. He's got away with that for years, but I don't know what he'll do next.

I think this is the right way to do things. Support the lads and then give Ashley what for.

Yous have a penchant for pitch invasions, could something along those lines not be done? Blackpool did it.

Maybe we should ask the Mackem fans for advice? I'm sure Stevie Harper saw first hand how good you guys are at it as the Mackem lad's fist connected with him.

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ashley isn't going to be effected much by people avoiding the stadium. It is no guarantee sponsors would be that turned off by an empty stadium as part of a global product. It could only really have an effect if sustained and fully particiapted in.

Getting games postponed a la Blackpool wouldn't take as much effort, and would have a bigger impact on Newcaslte, sponsors and Ashley. It just depends how desperate you are.

Lets ignore that though and make tit for tat comments in a game of one upmanship. <doh>
