What are people views on these hippies? I ask as my brother was one of the more influential members of this protest group. He was based in london but left not long before they were moved. Hes an ex soldier and an ex member of the tory party yet he suddenly started blabbering on about some bullshit about how the government were killing women and children by kidknappin them and sending them to work camps. I told him many times he had been brainwashed by the ****tard conspiracy goons and he would lose many friends over it. He lost his oldest friend and almost lost his family as he was coming out with some weird **** like all babies born are injected with mind control devises etc etc. Anyone have any dealings with these protesters, were they in our city? Agree of disagree with their cause or did you mutter " scruffy ****s " everytime you walked past?
Well, the unemployed need to pass the time somehow. Seriously though, it sounds like your brother needs psychiatric help.
He does but hes in his own little bubble now. He fought in Iraq but was discharged due to having hypermobility and went to live in Thailand......moved back here and decided to spend 5 months in a tent acting crazy.
TBH I think your brother needs help ASAP. I am an ex-soldier and it sounds like your brother has mental issues, possibly bought on by him unable to deal with life on the outside. Unfortunately its all too common an occurance with ex squaddies. As for occupy, I firmly believe that this is how the so called 'Arab Spring' arose. The British Government is a lot cleverer and stamps down on these protests with the well used 'divide and rule' strategy. People fail to see it but we are becoming increasingly dictatorial as a nation
I dunno about Occupy but the anti-capitalist/anarchist/eco-warrior types aren't into conspiracy theory bullshit. They don't need to be, plenty of real things for them to direct their anger at.
Try telling that to the folks in Syria. The Occupy protesters were cleared out after 6 months of back & forth at the High Court and eventually got moved on after all their appeals failed. The Police and bailiffs moved them on and cleared up the tents after they had gone. A far cry from the citizens of Homs who are being shot and bombed by their own government. Most of the Occupy crowd are rent-a-mob protesters who roll about the country turning up to anything from fox hunts to gypsy evictions as an excuse to have a barney with Plod. They'd think twice if it meant they'd get shot. Not that I'm against protests, do your thing but move on when asked then protest somewhere else. I like a good protest if it is peaceful and not overtaken by anarchists who want to kick heads in or go looting.
Its sad to see how so many things get tagged with the conspiracy theory tag. It has become a useful way to pour scorn on people. For example in this country the anti-capitalist/anarchist/eco-warrior types you speak of are seen as a bigger threat than terrorists.
I cant speak for Syria specifically, although I believe the truth will be closer to what I am about to say Most of the Arab Spring started off as a protest in an identified place ( eg for tehrir square see St Pauls). Initially it was the police who were tasked to move the 'illegal' protests (as per laws of the country), The police moved in but were unable to as the protesters took up arms, this lead to the army being called in Now see the looting/riots and the call for the military and water cannons etc. There are of course differences, but the similarities are scary
Good luck to them - we have a fine tradition of protests in this country and long may it continue. Mind, I wish Emeline pankhurst and her mates had stayed at home cooking the dinner
